Concede that the lad wishes now he had gone for touch ,but would have surely only obtained an England line out on the 22 ,1/100 they win that ,
..........2pts behind ,in drop goal/pen/try territory and everyone says he has give England ball back !
Report sewter lives again February 12, 2017 2:05 PM GMT
booby1 I think you have mistaken the England football team with the England rugby team.

the football team are the really poor team-Gareth even went to the England rugby training this week to see if he could learn anything about winning
Report mafeking February 12, 2017 6:13 PM GMT
england might still have won if he'd kicked it into touch but wales would have a had a much better chance of preventing it

could have regrouped for the line out and defended it with 15 men rather than england having effectively 1 man to beat to run it in the corner
Report 9-3 February 12, 2017 8:29 PM GMT
If they wanted to keep it on the pitch (which in fairness had been their plan throughout the game up to that point), Gareth Davies really should be box kicking. More chance to stifle the counter attack that way, and some chance of winning the ball back as well.

But there were other decisions and costly moments too. Virtually certain points were turned down in a game that was always going to be tight, and the badly executed lineout following Biggar's interception was an unforced error that took on the characteristics of a turning point.

The acres that Cuthbert gave Daly on the outside, made a tackle almost impossible. His lack of reading of the game/rugby instinct in defence was costly again for Wales and reminiscent of the RWC QF. Even disregarding the lack of natural rugby in him, the decision to start someone so out of form for so long has to be questioned.

It looked as though Howley had written down the timing of his substitutions before the game started, and then forgot to heed what he was seeing as he watched the game. The removal of Moriarty when he was playing out of his skin and showing no signs of tiring was nothing short of nuts, and the starting props, Webb and Scott Williams all had a case for staying longer.

There was excellent intensity and ambition to be seen, but key decisions were misjudged on and off the field.

On the back of a fine year, England have now found a way of winning two games from perilous positions when they have been affected by key injuries and have not been anywhere near their best. That is a sign of a team to keep looking out for in the next few years.
Report Whisperingdeath February 13, 2017 8:49 PM GMT
Strange to see some familiar old hags here!

Hello Grant btw I do hope you won of course!

I was at the game and forgot to have a bet! It was my first Six Nations match and first time to The Millenium Stadium. I have to say what a great stadium it is, magnificent. The Welsh people were wonderful and genrous hosts.

Rugby is not my sport but I have played it and think I understand bits of it. I don't know whether it was the Guiness before or the Brains during but I did not get a good view of the game getting caught bewteen watching what was infront of me and the big screen. It was a ferocious contest for sure with big some long phases and England turning over the ball alot too.

We knew Wales made mistakes by not taking 3 infront of the posts and losing the resulting scrum. It was amusing to hear cries of take the scrum every time they got another penalty. The kick for territory and not a pot at goal seemed an obvious mistake at the time too.

It was a close game, it could have gone either way but it didn't. I think Wales blew it big time, it was for the taking for them. As soon as the kick did not make touch it seemed everybody knew what was going to happen. I was in the corner of that score. Poor Cuthbert took some hammer.

I thought the Welsh fans were gracious in defeat. The England fans all had smiles like Cheshire cats. They knew they had pulled it out. The game is played over 80 minutes. We knew England would come back in the last 20 but fate and hinges of battle, what can I say!

Anyway it was a magnificent experience and I would recommend it to anyone particularly if you are not a Rugby fan. I am going to do this again for sure. I am actually going to Ireland to meet an old friend but  will not be getting match tickets. Will watch the game in the pub in Dublin.

Union is a great sport. Oh and I saw Jonathan Davies in the Hilton Bar by the ground. I have to say I have ultimate repect for him. He is tiny. Shorter and smaller than me. He must be one tough hombre to play that sport I was shocked. Was watching a show on Gareth Edwards on Sky today. Interesting a commentator maybe Elenor said on BBC it was possibly the greatest Six nations match ever, not sure about that but I know it wasn't as good as some of those 5 nations matches in the 70's. The older we get, the better we were!
