Hi Mate,

Hope you're well and winning?

Got a call at 1230 on Friday to say my lad had broken his ankle at school, so I've not been around this weekend (36 hours and 2 hospitals later, he's got a 36.5cm nail running almost the entire length of his tibia)!

awful, well a quick and speedy recovery then eh,
What do you mean by ankle? How did the poor bloke do it?

The call was incorrect, TKDM, and was based on the fact his foot was at 90 degrees to the rest of his leg!  He'd actually broken both tib and fib - badly.  Both bones broken in several places, including a spiral fracture on the tib and lots of loose fragments from the fib.  The first hospital he was taken to really didn't fancy sorting it, so we ended up getting an ambulance transfer at 0425 on Saturday morning (the initial request went in at 2030!). One of the sharp edges from a chunk of tib came very close to puncturing the skin, too, which was the bit that they were more concerned about that anything, and, by the time he was operated on, a 4cm x 3cm blister had formed over the site of it.

As to how he did it....  Plain  Front-flipping off a circa 1.5m high wall....  Crazy  He landed on both feet and is still regarding it as a success!  Laugh  Kids, eh?!  (he turns 15 at the start of July, BTW)

They're hoping to get him up and about on crutches today - his foot was still badly swollen yesterday, though nowhere near as bad as it was when he came out of theatre on Saturday - and hopefully home tomorrow.
