Well, Trump voiced concern about Obama playing too much golf during his presidency and then during his first term played golf more regularly than he did. He also appears to currently be on schedule to do so again in his second term. In that way, maybe you should additionally be concerned that the largest opponents of hypocrisy are not enraged at Trump.

As for myself and your concerns about costs: Now, I can not declare any precise numbers, but I would expect that staying in the White House and playing chess in the study likely comes with lower costs than traveling to Mar-A-Lago and needing to provide security on the golf course premises. In the light of proposed government efficiency and sacking national park people et al., maybe, to stick with the premise of Cider's post, it would be more optimal to be a good role model and seek to maybe only play golf every second weekend and play chess the other times to reduce costs. It would enable them to continue and pay the wages of national park people.

Would you fundamentally disagree with that assessment? If so, why?

I take on board that it might be cheaper to stay in the house and play chess but unfortunately there are people in this world that like to leave the house and be active and partcipate in sports.
