Report .Marksman. March 22, 2025 9:16 PM GMT
I have had trigger finger on my ring finger for about 4 months now.  According to the consensus on the internet, it is the ring finger of either hand that is most usually affected, the most common time for this is early morning, when half awake and it is probably caused by inflammation of the tendon.
I had sore fingers from lifting dumb-bells which were too heavy for me and I was gripping them too hard.  I am pretty sure that this is where my trigger finger originated. It was most common when I was in bed in the early morning, but it could happen at anytime.  It was initially painful and I tried to sleep with my fingers stretched out. Then I got a finger splint from Amazon, which completely stopped my finger from moving at night.  I did not wear it during the day.  The soreness in my fingers has long gone, but without the splint, I still get the odd triggering, although it is not painful now.  I will probably be recovered  altogether in another month.
I suggest getting a splint and then try to work out what caused the problem in the first place, so that you can avoid the things that aggravate it.

Don’t trust doctors!

Get on YouTube or whatever and find out what real people have suffered and what solutions they have found.

I am not saying doctors are all bad but compare what they say to what you find on YouTube

I totally agree with you WD regarding doctors as have in the past had a couple of bad experiences ( kidney stones that were originally diagnosed as a pulled muscle and elevated blood pressure that was told only way to get it down was medication)......i only visit them now if absolutely necessary Happy

Yeah,

I do have respect for Doctors but they are getting more and more like the other professional men…solicitors and accountants who tell you nothing but take your money.

I switched GP’s and mine is good but the referrals to the NHS “ process “ are such a waste of money. Everything seems to take months. Nobody ever diagnoses the problem let alone offer a solution.

The last one I saw was private. He asked me what was wrong. I told him and I told him the solution. He asked me how I knew that and I told him Stevie Wonder could diagnose my condition. He sent me for an X-ray, which, confirmed my own diagnosis and solution. He wrote to m6 GP and is arranging the procedure.

I am a huge supporter of the NHS and the cradle to the grave welfare state but the NHS has been mismanaged for generations. The Torres have been trying to destroy it but the NHS has to save itself, make itself efficient and stop wasting time and money.

dbb, had a tendon nodule in thumb from weightlifting which led to trigger thumb - also diabetic so more prone to tendon issues like that

Steroid injections are safe in that area (tad painful) and although first one didn't take I had 2 more and condition resolved many years ago with no repeat problems.

And yes wd - don't necessarily trust doctors - they know a little about all/most things but generally not in depth and the first response is normally a prescription -  but don't go to you tube for all the answers

do some deep diving research yourself on any conditions

An example of what I am talking about

A glass of wine is good for you

A glass of wine is bad for you

It changes frequently

Has anyone considered it might be the grapes that are good for you and not the alcohol?

During Covid I never heard of anyone, particularly the 3 wise men suggest people should eat fruit.

I saw 3 dummies at podiums about a meter apart in crowded rooms with low ceilings and dozens of journalists packed into them tell us that we had to keep two meters apart

I remember being told we could be arrested or fined for getting fresh air.

I heard we borrowed £400 for dealing with COVID including £37 Billion on test, track and trace.

Dyor!

lol, yep there were just too many to mention during 'that' period

Does the British society need to constantly be told that veggies are sometimes good for you?
Report edy March 23, 2025 3:42 PM GMT
And would that information not be available on e.g. the NHS site or others whenever someone was to seek to inform themselves about nutrition?
Report edy March 23, 2025 3:47 PM GMT
"In public address regarding covid crisis, Prime Minister Johnson reminded the public to have their five servings of fruit and veggies each day."

What a fabulous headline that would have made.

Yep , people are getting more stupider by the day here
Report edy March 23, 2025 4:04 PM GMT
But I would have thought they'd constantly be confronted by that kind of stuff on TV. Jamie Oliver says it all the time on his programmes.
Report edy March 23, 2025 4:05 PM GMT
And there hence being no need for Johnson to stand on a podium and tell people to have their broccoli.
Report edy March 23, 2025 4:10 PM GMT
Given that especially free thinkers tend to get rather enraged at perceived paternalism and their consumption of meat, I would strongly assume they would have stormed to social media to complain how the suboptimally shaped elitist guy dared to stand on that podium and say "Guys, five servings of veggies a day to stay healthy!".

The free thinkers would probably even have framed it as a globalist WEF plot to steal the meat eating from everybody as part of some climate thing.
Report clouded leopard March 23, 2025 4:13 PM GMT
True, but there's rarely any deeply informative programmes on terrestrial tv that go into the whys and wherefores of how those things do benefit us. Maybe the odd one here and there but during that 'period' it might have been prudent to push the point home somewhat given the backdrop.

Don't remember anything at all about nutrition, exercise, some supplements that may have assisted - zinc, vit c/d, omega 3 etc - get good sleep - all the obvious but people do need telling constantly

Though I do seem to remember the UK 'nudge' unit was somewhat occupied pushing other ideas at the time so maybe they can be forgiven Mischief

I think some are worthwhile edy, especially for those who don't eat well. With a healthy balanced diet full of colours you should be able to garner what you need though.

Definitely aim for supps without fillers/nasties tho

Vegetarians for instance are missing out on a boatload of good aminos from beef say.
Report edy March 23, 2025 6:11 PM GMT
In spot cases, yes, there are use cases for supplements. As you say though very few people without medical reasons, like those whose metabolism doesn't allow them to produce or use certain things from food, need them.

If people don't eat well....they'd probably be better adviced to spend their money rolled oats instead of zinc supplements. Big Supplement are a most horrible industry too.

Cholesterol

Oats and blueberries or statins?

Gues which one is prescribed on the NHS
Report clouded leopard March 24, 2025 1:16 PM GMT
Yep.. I 've been offered statins twice now based on future profiling ! Cholesterol levels as it stands are in perfect range.

Know elderlies who have been on them and had several side issues.

Just for the lol of it my doctor first said to me during Covid that I should go on statins -- my response was I don't think so doc , numbers are good ta

His reply - 'When a doctor advises you to do something you should really listen'

My reply - ' I think we'll leave it right there doc before I say something I should not' and hung the phone up

Switched doc since

****en racket the whole kaboodle - got several stories like that

Your own health is paramount - the most essential of essentials - spend time to research

Mg missy’s and family forced me after years for a prostrate test. I am old school and stoopid. Eventually during Covid I phoned the nurse and asked for one. She asked me why? What was the reason? I told her I did not want to die, was that a good enough reason? She said if wax not!
