RIP.

Remember seeing him swaggering about at the Klitchko v Haye fight in Germany looking like the boss he was.

Foreman was boxing at a time when heavyweight champions were revered as the best of the best .. that fight in Kinshasa against Ali is still one of the great sporting events. Respect to George that he did come back to boxing after a hiatus and I think he was well regarded and the grill named after him earned him a fortune.
RIP George

Never liked him as a boxer. He was a scary monster. Many serious boxing writers genuinely thought he would kill Ali in the ring. Up to perhaps 3 out of 50 thought Ali would win the fight. I cannot understand how Joe Frazier let him batter him although I suppose once you darn get hit it’s over. Ali in his Prime would have destroyed him.

Having said that he was probably even more of a monster than Sonny Liston because he really was monstrous in size. I can understand see why he battered everything in front of him. It would have taken exceptional ability to avoid him. He did close down the ring.

As a man he was probably even more extraordinary. I see how he won the title back at 45. He shouldn’t have but he got his chance and won it fair and square.

He did his best work outside the ring. A sad loss but a life well lived and worthy of our respect and admiration.

Gold medal at Mexico Olympics, 2 time World champion.

Also fought Tommy Gunn from Rocky films.

A thoroughly well lived life, and rather beautifully named
his five sons George.

Sad news,
