You literally have to be unable to do ANYTHING. Otherwise you don't get it. So there is going to be a huge cull of people with very serious illnesses who , because they can move one arm, will be cut adrift. EVERYONE who is sick and needs help will be put through aPIP assessment from 2026.

This is going to cause devastation.

The irony of your title, and opening sentence LaughCry

btw it's 8 points ;)

Our guests to the UK will have all the help in reaching them 4 points.
Report Mexico March 18, 2025 5:25 PM GMT
Just a reminder how easy it is to score 4 points….

Rachel from accounts clearly qualifies for PIP yet still gets a 6 figure handout and a very nice house in the country all paid for by the taxpayers.

The aim of this activity is to assess whether the claimant is able to make budgeting decisions, either simple or complex.

Descriptor C (4 points): Needs prompting or assistance to be able to make simple budgeting decisions
Prompting means reminding, encouraging or explaining by another person. For example: may apply to claimants who need to be encouraged or reminded to make simple financial decisions or who need assistance to manage simple budgeting independently.

Descriptor D (6 points): Cannot make any budgeting decisions at all

If that is the case going forward .....good!

I have no idea why people can get a brand new BMW on my tax dollars. it is insane!

People have to pay rent and feed their kids

I do not begrudge anyone in need of benefits receiving them

I want to know who signs off on the current rules and allows a civil servant to spend £2,500 on foot wear in the Caribbean!
Report Cider March 18, 2025 5:52 PM GMT
The irony is the dwp giving free money to people who claim they can't budget.

wtf do they think the money will be spent on that will ameliorate allegedly not being able to budget.

They can't get a brand new BMW on your tax. You have been told repeatedly how the benefit is implemented.

Report thegiggilo March 18, 2025 7:00 PM GMT
Absolutely nuts how people think its easy to get these benefits, and even if they do its fcking peanuts a lot of people are going to lose their carers ffs i know lots of disabled people and non of them have cars ffs.Typical gammonry.
Report Cider March 18, 2025 7:04 PM GMT
I read that as careers for a brief moment Laugh
Report Cider March 18, 2025 7:06 PM GMT
Kinda weird to write off disabled people, giggilo.

Totally blind Chris McCausland won scd in a landslide, do you think he needs PIP ?
Report Mexico March 18, 2025 7:44 PM GMT
Chris will be well over the 4 points for reading….

Descriptor E (8 points): Cannot read or understand signs, symbols or words at all
For example: may apply to claimants who require another person to read everything for them due to a learning disability or severe visual impairment.

He was fortunate that BBC didn’t insist on a reading test in the middle of Strictly, the scoring was biased towards dancing rather than reading.

The current increase and predicted increase is to do with “mental health “ claims. Being totally blind isn’t the driver behind increased social security spending.
Report Cider March 18, 2025 8:08 PM GMT
I raised Chris as capability is mostly due to attitude. So someone as significantly hindered as Chris is, treats his impairment as an obstacle to overcome, rather than a cause for pity. Of course it should make those young people especially who have learned to circumvent the dwp soft checks (it's not hard) absolutely ashamed. But it's a different world now and their social group would probably see gaming pip as an achievement.
Report Cider March 18, 2025 8:11 PM GMT
The counter is that there probably are some genuine people who are rejected for PIP as they aren't fluent on the internet, and haven't been coached on what it takes to score the points.
Report Mexico March 18, 2025 8:23 PM GMT
Yep bound to be plenty trying their luck.

Suspect there will a few in their 60s with minor health issues but fancy a bit of early retirement. PIP isn’t means tested.

Government just isn’t trying to reduce  burden on taxpayers, they have accepted that we will pay stacks more to scroungers yet try to claim they have saved £5bn.

Total BS. Need a government to make £40bn cuts, yet are left with this excuse of a government. Main policy is to build more houses for the million immigrants arriving every year.
Report Cider March 18, 2025 8:28 PM GMT
There'll be a strong correlation with those living on handouts and voting Labour. As I said before today, there was zero chance of them doing anything. Even today's 'announcement' of intending to spend a bit less than the anticipated continued spike was just pushing any suggested improvements into the long grass. Just lying the turf for the increased borrowing and tax hikes Rachel from accounts is going to shock us with next week.

But but but butbut

Rachel promised us there would be growth so no need to increase tax or borrowing.

So unless she is as clueless as Truss, everything will be fine.

We can increase NI to fund for rich doctors and train drivers to get more money. In Rachel we trust.

There was nothing wrong with the content of the KK budget. It would certainly have started to pay off by now. It was obviously bad politics, and pretty much nobody wanted it to happen, especially half her own party.
Report Mexico March 18, 2025 9:24 PM GMT
Nobody believed that Truss could actually make the spending cuts required to get close to a balanced budget.

If she had announced that would cut health & education spending and slash number of civil servants then perhaps she would have lasted a while.
The Tory MPs didn’t vote for her & she didn’t exactly reach out to the Sunak voters.

Is a very short list for PMs who have a worse record than her. Probably responsible for turning the next election from a very bad result into a total embarrassment.
Report Cider March 19, 2025 12:41 PM GMT
The Sunak MPs didn't reach out to the Truss mob. They were othered.

Of course Truss didn't last much more than a month but had more crises to deal with in that short time than Blair had in over 10 years. As I alluded to, virtually every stakeholder was working actively against her, including MPs from her own party, and the BoE actively trashing the ex rate and gilt market.

The politics was bad, but I'm not sure she could have survived however she played it. With no mandate from the general electorate you're on a hiding to nothing. Starmer got a landslide in a general election and collapsed the support within 6 months.
