Taking 5 years to bring in £5bn “saving “ & turns out isn’t what most people would call a saving.

Currently spending £48.5bn this will rise to £71bn in 2030 rather than £75.7bn. Hence the £5bn “savings “

Obviously no mention on how U.K. will pay for the increase from £48 to £71bn.
Well done Labour, takes 5 years to save absolutely f all.

When the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) made its last set of forecasts in October it estimated that benefits for working age adults would rise from £48.5bn in 2023-24 to £75.7bn in 2029-30.

Plenty of public sector “Middle Class†with gold plated pensions, above inflation pay rises, job security.

These are likely to vote to keep the gravy train on the tracks even if country heads towards a depressing future.

Beauty in the Daily Mail today where a one called Camilla Bains gave ownership of over £1 million to her daughters so she could continue to collect her means tested ill health benefits.

Is it people like her these cuts are aimed at?
Report Cider March 18, 2025 5:31 PM GMT
Hopefully. But you're allowed to give your money away, as long as there's no beneficial interest and don't die soon after, doesn't concern the state.
Report Whisperingdeath March 18, 2025 5:35 PM GMT
Just for the record you guys are annoyed that conservative policies have been put into place.

What did the Conservatives do in the last 14 years to stop abuse of fraudy benefit claimants?
Report lapsy pa March 18, 2025 5:39 PM GMT
Well worth a read and actually what a good judge to give her daughters the 800k house as her greed for the 8k a year cost her bigtime, DSW should now follow on and ask for a recompense if due.

Overall i think it is a desperate measure, you are depriving people (mostly) that would spend it straight away and goes to show how precarious the UKs economy is.
Report Cider March 18, 2025 5:44 PM GMT
People arrange their affairs to get taxpayer handouts and pay as little tax as possible. Doesn't matter where you are on the wealth scale. Like consultants leaving the NHS to avoid lta.

This as been done before.

But it’s good keir is copying the tories crap,no one wants these scroungers getting away with a few quid when the rest of us have to fund them.

Also,I’m really pleased lord bamford and lady moone, have had their tax debts written off,500mill and 232 mill, they and their families can sleep easy now, knowing this ruthless gov won’t be hounding them, and can focus the states muscle on the guy at the end of the street conning us out of 12 quid a week.

Report the old nanny ;-) March 19, 2025 4:58 PM GMT
The cost of running Jobcentres in the UK is substantial, with a 20-year PFI deal for job centre buildings costing taxpayers an estimated £13 billion, significantly exceeding the initial £2 billion estimate.

thats the  Buildings alone , never mind the thousands of staff in them  swanning around with their Gold Plated pensions unlimited sick leave and 8 weeks holiday a Year ,that must running into how Many Billions ?

That's where cuts can surely be made that will be more than 5 billion
Report the old nanny ;-) March 19, 2025 5:02 PM GMT
The DWP under Blair sold all the buildings to a private company

In 1998, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) sold hundreds of job centre buildings to a private consortium, then leased them back in a 20-year deal.
Initial Estimate vs. Actual Cost:
The initial estimate for this Private Finance Initiative (PFI) deal was £2 billion, with a projected £500 million saving for the public purse. However, the final bill soared to £13 billion, an increase of £11 billion.

Comical and they are after folks in wheel chairs to retrieve the Losses
