Get the plebs to fret about putting their cereal box in the right coloured bin while the ultra-rich are setting fire to the planet. Fool's game.
Report Cider March 16, 2025 8:53 PM GMT
It certainly wasn't burning in Bucks this morning.
Report PorcupineorPineapple March 16, 2025 9:04 PM GMT
I think Eastern Europe and the Caucuses are seeing historic March records drop by pretty alarming amounts aren't they? Texas is seeing 100 degree temps already. North Africa broke through forty degrees the other day.

It's March.

Humans are too insignificant to influence climate or the "gases" in and properties of the atmosphere. Read the god damn bible and learn something, PorcupineorPineapple!
Report Cider March 16, 2025 9:33 PM GMT
The planet's not 'on fire' then? Just the bits that are ordinarily hot on occasion.

How do the scientists say that existing deserts were formed on the planet? Where do they say we will see any new ones (I assume a burning planet is the ideal conditions)
Report edy March 16, 2025 9:37 PM GMT
I'd say a freezing planet are overall better conditions for forming deserts.
Report Cider March 16, 2025 9:38 PM GMT
You're not a scientist [evidently]
Report edy March 16, 2025 9:40 PM GMT
What makes you say that?
Report Shrewd_dude March 16, 2025 9:41 PM GMT
Thanks.

Saves me having to wash my pot noodle box out tonight and stick it in the green bin.

Ordinarily

I remember cider coming on and discussing climate a few months ago. IIRC he said he was going to read some piece and learn more. Need to find out if he did. One for tomorrow.

Do the Billionaires have the Heatpumps and Solar Panels ?
Report edy March 16, 2025 10:07 PM GMT
Like...look....

If the planet gets warmer..."burning"... there will be more evaporation and precipitation. Water doesn't just vanish. It comes down again. Now, of course if circulation systems want it so, that increased evaporation can lead to certain areas getting drier, possibly existing deserts expanding or new ones forming if the rain is carried elsewhere. But it's still going to overall rain....and in fact rain more overall. Some areas will also see desertifcation.

With a freezing planet you get yourself conditions where less evaporation happens, where the atmosphere can also hold (far) less moisture to begin with. Not exactly conditions that promote a whole lot of precipitation.  Having ice covers also is not generally advantageous for vegetation and stuff.

What's your counter argument among us two non-scientists, Cider?
Report saddo March 16, 2025 10:08 PM GMT
No, but they tried heat pumps in the House of Commons until recently.
Had to take them out, too noisy and not enough heat being pumped.
Report edy March 16, 2025 10:09 PM GMT
Should clearly have bought a German engineered one.
Report edy March 16, 2025 10:14 PM GMT
*Some areas will also see de-desertifcation. As in...deserts becoming less deserty.
Report PorcupineorPineapple March 16, 2025 10:29 PM GMT
Isn't the biggest desert Antarctica?

Been a couple of months since my last pub quiz but think that still stands.
Report edy March 16, 2025 10:33 PM GMT
Yes, although people who are evidently not scientists and those who do not frequent pub quizzes might think deserts are exclusively super hot with fine sand everywhere.

Can we get get more middle class lefties to help out the billionaires the OP speaks about??

By pretending that there is no such thing as an anthropogenic greenhouse effect and hence their emissions not mattering?

I will try and answer a question by asking another convoluted question said someone.
Report edy March 17, 2025 8:34 AM GMT
Well, your initial question wasn't particularly precise in what kind of help you had in mind. Mine tried to find out some specifics. So what did you have in mind?
Report edy March 17, 2025 8:36 AM GMT
Not sure you know the meaning of the word convoluted btw.

Do the Billionaires have the Heatpumps and Solar Panels ?
Report edy March 17, 2025 1:37 PM GMT
Billionaires tend to be somewhat shrewd sometimes regarding financial decisions. Given that both heat pumps and solar panels are generally very shrewd long-term financial decisions one or two billionaires out there is bound to have invested in them. The upfront payments are probably not a big financial burden for most billionaires. Nor is the availability of suitable owned housing and grounds.

The Great Cidini evidently has no interest in having this circular discussion with you.

It's funny how he keeps going into threads showing off how very little he knows about certain topics and how thoroughly resistant he is to doing even the most basic research and gaining knowledge, but eventually remembers how completely uneducated he is on those topics, with no legit interest to research them anywhere in sight, and he does his Great Cidini act of not having imaginary, suspiciously loosely defined circular discussions.

Too poor and houseless. Sad

Personal ownership, or lack thereof, does however not negate what I wrote about them often being shrewd financial decisions if have the facilities and monetary for the initial investment, casemoney. Or has your research led you to believe that this is wrong?

btw...the study this thread is likely about included investments by the billionaires in polluting industries such as the fossil fuel industries.

Just jet setting around in private jets and whatnot apparently only gives them a carbon footprint in the thousands higher than the bottom 90% of humanity. Happy

You repeatedly giving me sentences like this will never cease to amaze me. What about...learning things and stuff?
Report the old nanny ;-) March 17, 2025 7:33 PM GMT
Most people who want to Install Heat Pumps would need to replace their whole heating System , They may well be OK in New builds , but the Majority of Current housing Stock you will be a long time before you see any savings

An often overlooked point is that the sea is still at exactly the same height it was at millions of years ago. It was at sea level height then and still is now.
Report edy March 17, 2025 11:15 PM GMT
The sea should employ some Chinese students like Elon does to level it up so it can brag on twitch how 1337 it is.
