I've walked past so many houses today with Halloween decorations up, yet with Christmas it's getting rare to see decorations up, my mum didn't even put any up in the front room last year and didn't even buy any Christmas food

Said its not the same anymore

Truly sad that Halloween that isn't even a British thing until recently is now celebrated more than Christmas Sad

Irish and Scottish emigrants took it to usa... and tv brought it back on steroids

We used to have little lanterns as kids made out
of turnips, that they now call swedes.

All change, eh.

Ya had a big deep bowl of water with about 12 apples in it and in the apples a 3d or 6d or maybe one with a shilling in it, you had to dunk your head in it and pick one out by the teeth. and my luck was picking the apple with no money in it. Followed with a slice of barm brack and off down to proddie wadds (protestant graveyard) to see the banshee which we never saw.

Jaysus i might do that this year.

Cheers for confirming that

Never knew it was us that created it

But it's typical of the Americans, an idea that just gets out of hand as always with them

Mam used to coat apples in toffee, well sticky melted sugar.

And we used to put the uncoated apples in flour
bucket, not water, but none had money in.

Then we would go round asking penny for the lantern, practice
for penny for the guy...

To be fair to them, the Americans do it a lot better than we ever did.
