I am quite interested in the phenomenon that people get so upset about people they do not know. It is really interesting.

Like most of these types (Cobain, Whitney Houston without the actual talent etc...), Payne seemed a narcissist like the aforementioned. Most people who go on reality TV are a bit mental. You look at his interviews and its all me, me, me....

Alot of these "Famous" people who struggle with depression do so because they live in a bubble of narcicism. If they looked/worked outside that bubble and helped less fortunate, they would appreciate their own lot more. I'm talking genuinely helping not the PR charity work their agents set them up with. They have no structure or real productive purpose to their lives.

I used to live on the third floor when I first left home, sometimes when leaning over the Juliet Balcony it would cross my mind if you could survive a third floor fall onto concrete, 1st floor you could probably even get up and get away without even breaking something, 2nd floor you'd survive but would need an ambulance, third floor though is probably the tipping point as it's too hard to break your fall or cling onto anything and are just heading in one direction, 50/50 if you survive and if you do life wont be the same again.

Probably the last time I saw the X factor was around that time, the most contrived show on TV of all time with all auditionees pre auditioned to see if their TV worthy, you have to check one of two boxes, talented, or mentally unwell, there was no third option. Simon Cowell and his Syco company deliberately took advantage of vulnerable people to enrich themselves by wheeling them out to be humiliated and have the country take the piss out of them like a Victorian freak show. People would come on singing barbie girl declaring they worked in a chicken factory or a chubby women saying she was a jockey and they'd all laugh hysterically. And people call this mug Cowell a National treasure. Jeremy Kyle did the same on his show  and to a extent and Gordan Ramsey on Kitchen Nightmares, though at least he had some modicum of talent even if he was a self absorbed nob.

With all due respect to Liam Payne, he had no real talent, not that that was his fault, he was a book end in a boy band that was put together to make as much money from gooey eyed teenage girls as possible, very rare does any boy band member have any talent, Gary Barlow probably a rare exception who wrote hit songs still played today and could sing, charts used to be filled up with authentic bands who wrote and produced their own music, now it's filled up with talentless acts like Taylor Swift who plays no instruments, writes none of her own stuff but has producers churning out empty lyrics after empty lyrics in meaningless song after meaningless song, all sounding the same as it's 100% electronically produced. The headlines this has garnered is a reflection on the machine that is behind such acts, I feel for the family, the dad was swamped when he arrived in the city with papparazzi flashling lights in his face, and fans screaming, having to squeeze though the crowd outside the hotel to get inside, couldn't even grieve in peace. I also feel sorry for Young people under 25, all they have ever known is the internet and the digital age, many of them are completely detached from the physical world and can only communicate in emoji's, think 'likes' equals popularity and shares/retweets validates their existence, sad times.

She has co writers on nearly all her songs. As I heard from another person before, she probably pays for the tea/coffees/donuts during the writing/production sessions so thats her level. Her guitar skills are on par with Niall Horan....Pub/campfire standard.

Its these Writer/Producers (Max Martin, Jack Antonoff, Rami Yacoub etc...) who drive alot of "success" now a days with what I would describe as formulaic pop music. Its music artificially/electronically designed to sound pleasing to the ear. Delving deeper in these songs though they are pure dirge designed for teeny boppers. If you delve into these background producers who are too ugly and have no real personality to promote their stuff so its shared out amongst bands like One Direction or the likes of Taylor Swift. Most of these bands have a limited shelf life of say 5 years so once they are done, the producer moves onto the next band/singer etc... Its a conveyor belt of garbage.

Theres not a single member of One Direction who had even half decent talent as individuals. I saw an interview with Zain Malik and the guy couldn't string a sentence together and is now tatted up to his chin in some deseperate attempt to stay "Cool"

Agree totally with Mes on every point he made.

Sure she does but she still writes. The only bit of hers I paid attention to was when she did the album with the fella from The National, and he said she writes too, particularly the lyrics. And she came up through the country scene where she was basically always with a guitar in her hand. She only really started using co-writers when she went more mainstream pop from country pop.

I'm hardly saying she's the next Paul McCartney, just that a better example of a talentless pop singer could be found.


As for 1D, I'd say that Harry Styles seems to be a half decent actor as well as a good singer. And he wrote As It Was, alongside pretty much all his other stuff, and that's a great little pop tune.



I agree with the general point of the death of pop music. I can pinpoint it to around the early 90s when we got those American boy bands on the scene. The 80s had original bands and singers who at least created, but then producers and labels just wanted a pretty face and decent voice and they'd do the rest. And these talent shows are the lowest of the low.

But it's not hard to do a little bit of research and find out if pop stars are actually writing their stuff or just being a hired hand, and Swift and Styles both definitely do more than just turn up and add their vocals to a song.

Michael Jackson didn't write much, Prince did.

While I agree with most of the Boy Band posts on here & I really don't like them in general, I remember thinking the video for Everybody (Backstreets Back) by the Backstreet Boys as being one of the best Boyband video productions at the time.
