STV reporting it. Aged 69.

Giving a speech in Macedonia apparently.
I was only watching an interview of his yesterday and people were commenting he had put on a huge amount of weight.

RIP to the man, a big sports fan.

It's a shame, 69 is not particularly old.

So sad to learn that Alex Salmond has died. I had lunch with him in London only three weeks ago — an epic lunch as it transpired, as was fitting with Alex  — and he was in fine form.  Full of plans and plots. He even paid! His upbeat mood then make this all the more surprising and sad. He and I could not have been more different in terms of Scotland’s position in the UK but we had a mutual respect and he knew I always regarded him as the most accomplished and significant Scottish politician of modern times. He was also the best of company. To be with him was always a joy. I will miss him hugely. So will Scotland. My condolences to his wonderful wife.

Andrew Neil.

Sad to hear, had a huge respect for him, he was a politico heavyweight.

That would appear to be his speech at the event he attended in North Macedonia, he died shortly after.

Can't say he looked ill and appeared to deliver his speech well, he definitely had put some beef on but didn't appear out of sorts.
Saying he died during lunch.

Do the disciples of Elon think there is a link? I mean, two different people from the UK have both died within a week of each other. There must be something really bad going on in the UK. It could be a conspiracy between the govt and the BBC.

I know that sounds totally unhinged - but I thought I'd still post it anyway. It might be a woke conspiracy.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

Irish version:

If you give a man a picture of a fish, he will spout delusional sh1te on an internet forum every day, until the end of his bitter, miserable lifetime.

Scottish police are “assessing” a new allegation of sexual assault against Alex Salmond, it has emerged.

Police Scotland said it had received a report of a “non-recent” sexual assault following the death of the former first minister last month.

Separately, it has been reported that in 2022 a group of five or six women complained to the SNP about Salmond’s alleged behaviour, but the party did not take action because he was not a member.

Chris McEleny, the general secretary of Salmond’s Alba Party, criticised what he called “attacks and smears” and urged that Salmond be allowed to “rest in peace”.

Salmond had faced a Scottish Government investigation into sexual misconduct claims, which was quashed in court after a judge found that it was “tainted with apparent bias”. He went on to face multiple charges in a criminal case but was acquitted of all of them following a trial.

He claimed he had been a victim of a conspiracy designed to put him in jail, directed by allies of Nicola Sturgeon, with whom he fell out spectacularly over the saga.

A person might wonder why this has only come out now.
