We hate Starmer for his actions and policies but we love him for what he's doing to the reputation of the Labour Party in the eyes of many of their traditional supporters. Reform is a bigger threat to the Tories than Labour has been ever since Gordon Brown wrecked the economy.

Exactly, if they think it's about salvaging the Tory brand, all good lol. That's all but dead, and Starmer is doing a great job at killing Labour's. Although, I didn't expect him to be this good.

Badenoch should comfortably win but the fortunes of the Conservative party 100% depend on the ability of the next shadow chancellor & next health secretary to shred Labour's economic & NHS plans.
Badenoch must choose well.

So that's two consecutive non-white leaders of the Tory party, plus the various non-white ministers occupying high positions over the years... but I'm sure the Progressive Left will STILL find some way to classify the Conservative Party as "racist", "fascist" etc etc.

Many of the racists are currently voting for Reform their natural home. Do you Dab Enoch or Jenrick were trying to woo the moderates or the racists with their ignorant rants?
Looking forward to the sniping. When will the next leadership election be held?

Reform posting candidates at local elections. It’s gonna get messy!

I don't have much interest unless it gets messy tbf, I actually thought Kemi was a man until quite recently. I was certain that Labour would get two terms not long ago, yet here are the Tories attempting a comeback. A week is a long time etc has never been truer.

Do not for one second think the Tories are a shoe in at the next election or Bad Enoch will be their leader!

I think it's become personal. Despite his being quite useless, a lot of people liked Boris, a lot of people rather hate Starmer after just a few weeks, it will take some turning round.

i don't know anybody who Liked useless boris, you must run about with some real weirdos. He was PM useless but liked, liked for what ? he doesnt really have great morals, did you like him because he was racist ? misogynist or used the word woke (if it is a word) regularly ?

And yet the useless, incompetent, corrupt Tories were routed at the General Election.
Why was that?
The two leadership hopefuls went for the racist vote.
Don’t worry his terrible Starmer is. You got bigger problems

One of these days you might get over the Tories previously being in office. They aren't now, and won't be for at least another 4 years. Labour still acts like it's in opposition, so does its fangirls.

Starmer has abdicated complete control of the economy to Rachel, I once worked at the Bank of England, Reeves.
Reeves' massive increase of Employee NI is going to throttle the economy for years.

Elon Musk said America voted for less drama in '20.
Starmer is our Biden. After clown Boris Johnson, being reliable, even humourless, was a vote winner.

Five-foot-four Jenrick would have been a disaster. He sold his soul for votes he failed to get. Badenoch has promised him a place in the shadow cabinet. She will no doubt find a place that suits his abilities, until he again "resigns on principle."

The result was good for democracy. We need a credible opposition.
Jenrick's pitch was "Farage tribute act." The future of the Conservative Party cannot be trying to move right of Reform. It can never win that march.

Labour had a majority of 174, will probably be 172 soon once the MMA MP is kicked out and we have a by election. The Liberals are basically Labour with a different colour rosette. The political opposition in parliament will not be able to do anything that will impact legislation for 4.5 years at the earliest. The disaster now is far more prescient.

Kemi will be a good opposition leader, who will hold the government to account (which is a good thing for democracy). And she has four years to demonstrate whether she is prime minister material, something which is not obvious at the moment. Nigel Farage is not impressed by her, but whether that is because she blames him personally for ruining the Torys' electoral chances or simply because she is an obvious threat to Reform UK, it's hard to tell. I know that there are a lot of people on here who would want the parties that they don't vote for to have abysmal leaders, so that their preference wins. But I don't. So chances of a merger between Conservatives and Reform look remote. I think we are better off with good leaders of all the parties. I want this government to do well, but I have my doubts while Starmer is in charge. I hope Kemi does well, but when it comes to the next election I could still vote for Nigel as he seems more pragmatic and willing to make the sort of deals which will be necessary in a future hung parliament.

Kemi Badenoch suggests to @bbclaurak that the problem with Partygate was not Johnson and his No10 team breaking Covid rules, the problem was the rules themselves.
The Tories really haven’t learned anything have they?

You forget that Badenoch resigned from Johnson's government.
Be interesting to see who she picks for Shadow Chancellor, home secretary & Health secretary. I think she may throw in a surprise or two.

The main reason why I could not back Jenrick, and I stated before the outcome was that a lot of Tory members have moved to reform, and they would be more inclined to go with Jenrick if they had not. That's where the almost 30% not voting comes from, registered members who they have effectively lost.
I do think the one nation types will be looking to get their own person in, so yes it will be difficult for Kemi in the medium term. Her advantage is that they are almost as obsessed with a person's immutable characteristics as labour, liberals and snp.

nfc chance of merging, with Nigel around. reform will be concentrating in making further inroads into labour's thin support, which shouldn't be difficult.

Zia Yusuf is a man to watch, if he tries to get elected I suspect he is being prepared to take over the party at some point. He's already a superior 'politician' to the vast majority of people who are already MPs. My instinct is that Farage doesn't want to be PM but he thinks Zia could be. But obviously a long way to go, very difficult to break through the duopoly, lamentable as they are.

I would imagine there will be a few other supporting Protests on the Day ...

I think Kemi has a touch of thatcher about her. Only time will tell if she grows into her role, who knows she could become quite a phenomena. Many tories disliked thatcher and thought her unworthy of respect to start with.

The Conservative Party forms the Opposition, Cider. You can’t just parachute a candidate from the margins on the right and deem him leader of the opposition. That would not be British.

Farage wants to be the main opposition in parliament from the next election. A lot can happen in four years, they can make gains in local elections, by elections, regional administrations eg Wales. They can easily peel off Labour and Tory voters and more importantly, get people to vote who sat out the last one. It's definitely achievable, whether it will be actually achieved or not, who knows.

My hunch is that she will only be replaced either at the ballot box, or after a spell as PM. Tories are now shaken by changes in leadership, and inconsistency. Now they will want stability and after seeing how Kemi demolished Rayner a few months ago in House of Commons, she could step up to the plate and make things very uncomfortable for Starmer. This will be the only thing going for the Tories in the next few years and I think they will take run with this, at least up to the next GE.

I think everyone is fed up. These Labour loons have no idea who they are supposed to represent and will lose the old and the young. The Farmers never voted for them although they did vote for Christmas 60-40 to leave the EU.
I would not be surprised to see Reform make a move in May although it will not last

Full Tory frontbench is completed, and it comprises 53% of the entire parliamentary party. Also a massive *20* whips, which is a ratio of one whip per six MPs.
