The pagers exploded in southern Lebanon, the southern suburbs of Beirut known as Dahiyeh and the eastern Bekaa Valley - all Hezbollah strongholds.
In one instance, closed-circuit surveillance video carried by regional broadcasters showed a person paying at a grocery store as what appeared to be a small handheld device placed next to the cashier exploded.
A Hezbollah official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the detonation of the pagers was the "biggest security breach" for the group in nearly a year of conflict with Israel.

Labels can be seen on the fragments which would ordinarily show the distributor, model number and operating frequency of the pagers - but because they’re damaged, the information that remains is incomplete.

What can be seen clearly is the word "GOLD" on both fragments, and a partial model number that looks like "AR-9" or possibly "AP-9".

One of the images appears to show a "USB - C" port, its plastic cover peeled back. Three decorative grooves can also been seen.

These indicators seem to point to a model called the Rugged Pager AR-924, made by the Taiwan-based Gold Apollo Company Ltd.

Throws some light on the laughable idea that they had no choice but to blow up schools and hospitals to get at a couple of Hamas fighters doesn't it.

When all you do is 5hit in a bucket living on tinned food getting more ashen by the day living underground the assassination options are somewhat limited.

Good god it looks like they planned the whole thing. This operation marks the beginning of the end of Israel. How do you know they haven't done it to your new phone from the same Taiwan factory or that 1 of the pagers hasn't ended up in the UK (or on holiday) and explodes when you are next to it? I'm damn sure Isreal has no idea and zero care!

As a way to identify the terrorists it was a triumph, but why did they have to be designed to maim people and blow their eyes out? And of course huge collateral damage. I want to help Israel defend itself but surely it would be more effective to use this technology to identify and take out the terrorists without injuring thousands of civilians which once again alienates "neutrals" who see how Israel behaves?

The maiming rather than killing is deliberate. Similar to landmines. There is a quote from someone high up in the Israeli system that I'll try to find, but it's basically that they prefer these people (and obviously it's not just the targets but those within range too) to be a drain on their enemies' resources for decades to come rather than just killing them.

The whole reason Hezbolloh decided to use pagers was because they are harder to track than mobile phones.

Secutity source in Lebanon says he has never seen anything like this before. He says gun was found inside a box of Milk Tray chocolates. "We don't get Milk Tray here anymore" so this is a new development. He says he couldn't feel the gun in the box because they got told to use Milk Tray instead of Milka because Israel could infiltrate the Milka.
