Public dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of immigration is at a record high, according to the think tank British Future, which has been running surveys on this question since 2015. Among the 69% of people who say they are dissatisfied, Sunak’s failure to “stop the boats” is the most cited reason for their disapproval.

So convert the Isle of Wight into a holding centre, ban boats from the Island , plenty of dodgy run down hotels, whats not to like ? .....  obvious ennit bro ?

Better still, don't rescue them from their boats mid-channel.  Just leave them, they are not our responsibility.  If I jumped overboard from a cruise liner, and no one rescued me, it would be no ones fault but my own.  If I jumped in front of a tube train, I couldn't say "I expected someone to reach out and rescue me.  (I'd be dead so I probably wouldn't be able to say anything much any way).  This would be a deterrent.  And those already here could be put to work rebuilding the infrastructure and finishing off HS2.  Hard labour for 10 years or so to gain British citizenship:  Seems reasonable to me.

Human rights groups have urged Britain not to copy Italy’s approach in trying to reduce the number of migrants arriving on its shores. Their comments come after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer traveled to Rome this week to learn more about the country’s success in tackling irregular migration across the Mediterranean Sea.
