Single occupancy discount about to be scrapped?
Blimey Labour are like one of those nutters who drive their car up the pavement.
Not just got it in for the elderly then?

8.38 million live alone (obv some claim benefit already) but those who don’t could face a 25% Ctax increase.
Starmer wasn’t kidding when he said he was going to make things worse
But setting fire to everything all at once?
This is going to get lively imo.

I was expecting this after losing the fuel allowance. They'll do well to last a term.

It's actually a 33% increase; a hefty increase if true (and I'm not doubting it is true)

I understand Starmer's logic:  The pensioners are no longer productive to the state, whereas train drivers are needed to keep the wheels moving.  Same with nurse and junior doctors.  It does not matter to Starmer whether people have had a lifetime of paying National Insurance and taxes because they are not doing anything useful now.  He is really following the logic of Stalin, who took food from the mouths of food producers to feed factory workers.  This is the way we are going. In a worst case scenario Kier Starmer will be replaced as leader in 3 years time but his party will be in power for minimum 10 years.

Godon Brown introduced Winter Fuel Allowance not the Tories who traditionally never gave a monkeys about pensioners freezing to death

£523.75 is my current discount nanny + next year's increase. What with winter fuel going up, which is increasing next month, as it did last year, just before winter and then decreased again in spring. Cheap fuel when we don't need it, prices rise when we do. Makes you wonder.

They may not even increase them. This rumour came about because Angela Rayner wouldn't comment on it, or that's how I've deciphered it.

To ask pensioners to lose £150 fuel allowance, pay another (give or take) £500 and also increase their energy bills is asking a little too much, me thinks.

Good idea though lucky... that would be a fairer way.

Starmer is a Marxist
Anyone with capital will be targeted for a shakedown.
And when you think about it, a growing population, added to it immigration on steroids for Labour’s gain, the idea of single occupancy properties will be a luxury
Especially since their two tier outlook and censorship of speech will keep the prison’s brimming where 2 or 3 people to a cell will be common, the idea anyone is allowed their space will be the anathema to this lot.

People thought they were Voting for a Labour Party Cardinal , they have made a serious error

I doubt very much the same error will be made in 5 years , certainly not to the extent is has on this occasion

The whole council tax regime needs ripping up and starting again. Wealthy Londoners in multi-million pound pads are paying less than families in the north. It's a nonsense.

In fairness I agree Ctax does need reform, but it’s extremely dangerous ground which is why nobody bothered with it.
Whether it turns out to be true, that single occupancy is a target, then we get a good idea of the rationale behind this government.

Middle class 'wealth' is the obvious target

But there's more to it than that

For those late to the party - the monetary system has been goosed for a very long time and 08/09 perma fooked it all up... it's broken

We're all gonna get a spanking new system if tptb get what they want - they don't always btw but that's the aim ...

Controlled till your dying breath from here on in

I'd be surprised if this happened, it would affect untold amounts of single mums of which Rayner was one, and her mum was also one. If they did then 8 million people wont be forgetting it at that the next election, Labour are historically never in power for too long, the Blair era a rare exception, if they want to follow the trend then making people poorer, especially your core base, is the way to go. It would also probably lead to sharp rise on theft and fraud to make up the shortfall.

No surprise they went after pensioners though, majority of which vote Tory voters as people tend to be as they age looking at the age voter demographic.

All the tories have to do to win back the voters they lost would be to simply promise to reverse the cuts Labour have made.
