Ok, looked up the populations and did a quick calculation meself. It's evidently only the population of the Republic of Ireland that the New Zealand Herald uses.

Germans are such frauds. For centuries they pretend that they can only pronounce "W" like "V" e.g "vot is your name. Don't tell him, Pike" and then I find out on duolingo that they can pronounce "Wow!" more or less like "Wow".
