Here is the result for Hall Green last time.

https://members.parliament.uk/constituency/3327/election/397

What would be the point in voting tactically in a constituency like this? I have the luxury of voting for the candidate or party of choice and not the lesser of two evils.
Report edy July 2, 2024 6:57 PM BST
In a constituency like that you could spoil the vote and provide delight to the job of the ballot counters.

Cai also takes great joy in the spoilt votes - not least because of how they are inspected, with a spotlight and camera set up so a blown-up version can be displayed on a TV.

"The amount of people who put dicks on ballot papers you would not believe," he says.

"When you've got graffiti like that it's hilarious because it's a really formal procedure.

"You've got all these people in suits going through this process, looking at the ballot papers and all of them obviously nodding in agreement that yes, that's invalid."

...but please do not draw genitals.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- July 2, 2024 7:02 PM BST
I heard of someone who decided to express their disgust at a particular candidate by drawing a cøck and balls in the box by the candidate's name. Because the mark was entirely within the box, and no other marks were made on the paper, it didn't count as a spoiled ballot, but was actually counted as a vote for the candidate the voter detested.
Report edy July 2, 2024 7:03 PM BST
That's a very important thing to know and respect when spoiling your vote.
Report edy July 2, 2024 7:03 PM BST

Report Foinavon July 2, 2024 7:05 PM BST
Aw, I was thinking female genitalia would be appropriate considering they are candidates for the post of MP.
Report Cardinal Scott July 2, 2024 7:16 PM BST
I voted Green last time as a protest vote, this time I have not decided between Labour, Lib Dem or stay in bed and don't vote.
Report edy July 2, 2024 7:28 PM BST
It's your spoil at the end of the day and you can do whatever you want, Foinavon. Me asking you to not draw genitals is simply down to puritan conservatives like myself deeming it a bit vulgar personally.

I previously spoilt a ballot paper by drawing
2 diagonal and parallel lines, and writing between the lines
none of these candidates are worthy of this office.

Local election, the winner died a few weeks later
and a by election was called. I didn't vote, and
moved to Durham shortly after.

I'm intending to vote on Thursday, Labour will win
but I like the lib dem candidate more.

No independent, so I'm pretty much undecided

Should I support mp, or vote with my heart.
Report Charlie July 2, 2024 8:28 PM BST

Report Foinavon July 2, 2024 8:32 PM BST
Thanks Charlie, apology accepted. There is a story about Mr Godsiff who presented as an independent in 2019. He was the defending MP and was asked to stand aside for (in this constituency) an ethnic majority candidate (Mr Ali). Mr Godsiff registered few votes which confirms that people are voting for the rosette rather than for the candidate.

Re. same number of votes - I've used this example often

In the 2019 election Cons nationally increased their vote by 300,000 & were rewarded wity 80 extra seats (compared to prev GE) whilst the Lib Dems increased their vote nationally by 1.5 million & were rewarded with the loss of one seat.

in that case we could copy aus and make it compulsory to vote

but in acne or tunbridge wells you can understand why people think its worthless-which is why the constituency system is an anachronism dating back to the old rotten boroughs and should be reformed

we could have a genaeral vote and then allocate mps

Voted at 8.30 so I hope that is it for 4+ years. The most depressing election I have witnessed since I volunteered to drive voters to the polls in 1964. Proud to be able to drive at the time aged 20. That was depressing too as Harold Wilson won easily but at least my constituency at the time (Stroud) was retained as Tory. This time a 10000 Tory majority in Wells/Mendip is highly likely to be a loss to Libdem.
