Polish couple who raked in £700,000 of bogus claims jailed for four years each
A benefits cheat was caught after police found £50,000 stuffed down her leggings as she tried to leave the country via the Channel Tunnel.
Polish nationals Wiktoria Packowska and her partner Wojciech Kowalski were jailed for four years each for defrauding the taxpayer of more than £700,000 in bogus claims. They created false bank accounts, identity documents and utility bills to make more than 80 false claims across a three-year period.
Their offending came to light in June 2020 when they tried to leave the UK via the Channel Tunnel with £50,000 cash hidden inside Packowska’s leggings and a further £12,000 in her handbag.
Both were arrested on suspicion of money laundering and a search of their home in Ilford, east London, was carried out. Inside officers removed a kitchen kickboard and found a carrier bag containing a vast quantity of mobile phones, bank cards and documents linking them to fraudulent activity.

They're much smarter than our lot. The system is flawed so they help themselves. And if they get caught they only have to serve a couple of years. They must have been confident to get caught carrying the loot.

^^The same Poland that the EU and UK donated vast amounts of money each year eg at least $8bn. This is the same Poland which has received hospitality and freedom of movement from the UK and EU.
I'm afraid the above is fairly common with foreigners once their status to remain in the UK is official.

During Covid there was no face-to-face interview. However, I'd like to think AI would have raise a red flag eg similarity of claims, the frequency and the amount would have raised a red-flag. If not, face-to-face would have for sure.
I think more ground checks esp on those living in rented accommodations where multi-occupancies are the norm.
