Maybe we need to make use of all these boring little Scottish Islands and send them there instead, no need to build prisons on them just let them see if they can swim.

Whatever way you want to dress it up the UK prisons are 86% of British inmates.
If we did not experience this population explosion over the last two decades, there would be far few people in prison. An unarguable fact. You would have to count British nationals who are offspring of people who weren't to get the full picture, and that's not data that is published.
ie it's simple numeracy, more people means more demand on civic resources. Even if it was equally distributed across the population (the proportion of population in prison)

The complaint was he talks endlessly about immigration and not much else, the youtube clip you posted is not representative of what he spends most of his time doing and talking about, which is immigration - if he gave as much air time to other policies he might have he may have been elected as an MP years ago instead of the constant rejection in targeted seats.
I am in favour of immigration control the same as everyone else but all this talk about stopping the boats is a red herring, a ploy aimed at simple souls who think that's actually where most of Britain's immigration is coming from, whilst those radicalised on talk radio would like to storm Dover beach and take pot shots at the rickety old boats about if it weren't for modern tech and everyone have a camera in thier pocket, most of the immmigrants are actually above their heads in the skies, flying into Heathrow legally giving a little wave as they cruise by at 500mph. Illegal immigration makes up about 6% of total migration to the UK (after net migration) in a 12 month period yet it gets 99% of the coverage. A city the size of Sheffield move to the UK last year and they weren't coming across the channel.
The point of the opening post was not about immigation, it was about the fact the prison system is soft, too many of those prisoners are reoffenders taking up resources and space, too many of them think prison is like a holiday which is why they don't mind going back, no prisoner in Thailand, Turkey, America or Georgia would ever want to go back.

There's two parts to that. The illegals simply flags up the utter incompetence of the state. Not only collecting them from the sea, after being handed over by the French, akin to a taxi service, but furnishing them with things for free that most people are already here could only dream of. Literally rewarding criminal acts. It's the proverbial snack in the chops. Plus it's an absurd security risk, we let them do whatever they wan and a significant number are criminally minded.
More people = more people in prison - more demand on the state's resources. Whether prison is being used effectively or not is a different discussion, obviously prison numbers is correlated to the number of people, whatever the approach is.
