9 days to bury the evidence, shredders working overtime

The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), which was responsible for purchasing and delivering Covid PPE, said it was unable to provide a statement due to the pre-election period

Before the pandemic, the company, which was already a specialist manufacturer of PPE, had 25 employees and annual profits of £800,000, external.

Any profits since the contract was fulfilled are not known because in 2021 the co-directors, Sarah Stoute, 50, and her husband Richard, 53, based the business offshore in Jersey for privacy reasons.

The BBC understands that at least £100m of public money has additionally been spent on storing and incinerating the excess stock since its purchase.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 25, 2024 11:04 AM BST
Afterwards, Mrs Stoute and her husband bought a £30m seafront villa in Barbados; a yacht; a £6m house in the south of England and an international equestrian centre in Bedfordshire.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 25, 2024 11:06 AM BST
The Stoutes unsuccessfully brought legal action against News Group Newspapers in 2023 after the Sun on Sunday published images of them on a beach in Barbados.

A judge ruled, external the couple, who were photographed after taking jet skis from their boat to a nearby restaurant, did not have a reasonable expectation of privacy.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 25, 2024 11:07 AM BST
There is no suggestion the Stoutes or their company did anything wrong.
Report DancingBraveTheBest June 25, 2024 11:24 AM BST
Pretty sure I know who the Stoutes voted for in the last GESad
Report PorcupineorPineapple June 25, 2024 3:02 PM BST
The Dept for Health continues to store about 800m items of Full Support PPE (approx 40% of what was delivered) that will never be used in care settings and is basically sitting in warehouses pending incineration. £100m+ of taxpayers’ money has likely been spent on its storage.

Full Support Healthcare was founded by a former nurse, Sarah Stoute. Her husband Richard Stoute is a co-director. There is no suggestion they or the company acted improperly.

It’s impossible to know what profits the couple have made because they based their business offshore in Jersey in 2021 for privacy reasons. They continue to pay all UK tax.

However, since winning the Government contract they have purchased a £30m seafront villa in Barbados, a yacht, a £6m house in the south of England and Keysoe International Equestrian Centre in Bedfordshire.

It's call panic buying - plenty were at it. People paying huge sums for hand sanitiser and loo rolls.

The NHS was screaming for PPE "now!"  - due diligence went out of the window.

What would you have done if you were in charge ?  " Nah don't want it - too expensive , and might not need it all " .... "OK no problem , plenty of others out there want it , bye "
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 25, 2024 3:25 PM BST
Why didn't they use it when hospitals were
paying for ppe.

Not just panic buying and profiteering, but woeful
infrastructure and planning.

You could forgive over purchase at correct price

But over purchase at vastly inflated prices off
mates, when others were screaming to supply at correct price.

Another enquiry incoming, no doubt.

What would you have done if you were in charge ?

I hope any decent person would not set up a system which enriched my chums.
Like the sleazy, corrupt and greedy Hooray Henries with their sense of entitlement (to our monies) did.
£14 billions going to Handcock’s former barman and Tory peer Michelle Mone amongst other Tory chums.

Still it’s not all bad. It was paid for by expanding food banks and child poverty.
Report cryoftruth June 25, 2024 4:01 PM BST
And yes there was a clamour for PPE. So the Hooray Henries saw their chance and my word did they take it.
£14 billions in dodgy VIp lane contracts. £1.4 billions of the stuff entirely useless. Companies awarded contracts with no experience of producing PPE whatsoever.

Then a subsequent massive effort by the Tories to cover it all up.
The Good Law Project had to resort to law numerous times to squeeze every bit of the hellish revelations out of the Tories.

So you are happy to pay for it, great, we are not.

£45 for every uk income tax payer for this waste.

And that's just one contract...

"there is no suggestion they or the company acted improperly"

That is why Michelle Mone and her hubby are up the proverbial creek with no paddle in sight.

When Labour are in power and inherit all the evidence of corruption and cover up there is going to be a reckoning.
Report Johnny The Guesser June 25, 2024 5:27 PM BST
I'm not happy about Government waste but tis is entirely understandable in the circumstances. Millions were also  "wasted"  on Nightingale hospitals but again understandable , better to be over resourced  than under prepared.

It was known as the  SCAMDEMIC and NOT a pandemic.  When will some people actually wake up to what happened

Why are they destroying the stuff. Nothing wrong with it ?.What happens if their is another outbreak ?, can then be used, why the hurry to dump it.
Surely the stuff can be used now, the masks are useful. In certain situations better the blood or sick lands on ppe rather than your uniform or civvies ?. You can see my point of view, where i'm  coming from.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 25, 2024 7:30 PM BST
Nightingale hospitals never had staff... Great idea

Were they building mortuary capacity?

Of course there will be waste, but system was designed to waste and reward cronies

Health secretary had a barman providing ppe in preference to reputable firms
who were denied contracts

Utter scum

They're destroying it because it's too expensive to store. I'd imagine it also has a use-by-date but not sure on that.

actually the £14 billions given by the Tories to their chums in their PPEgate VIP lane has had some strong benefit.

The Hooray Henries with their sense of entitlement have been able to buy new ocean going yachts and private planes, so it’s very good for them at least.

Just a shame that kiddies are going hungry and food banks are having to ration charity emergency food handouts to pay for the Tory greed.

I certainly would not give any tax concessions or child allowances to parents never mind subsidised child care. Having children is a choice people make and it should not be subsidised by those who choose not to. I do have 2 children and 4 grandchildren but never understood why we got any payment from taxpayers. In those days there was no child care. There were voluntary playgroups of parents with young children who met up once or twice a week but no public money involved.
