Just wondering when did Sky TV start. Anybody out there knows when?

Interesting to know how old Sunak would have been when it started?

Sunak would have been 8 apparently..
Report brentford June 12, 2024 2:35 PM BST
not the greatest example of upbringing hardship...

we were so poor we didn't even have pay TV..Laugh though actually think it was free at launch with a very limited channel list..

He was born in 1980.

Pretty sure Sky won the football rights fairy early.
So at secondary school other kids might have been watching Premier league?

Neither of the candidates were exactly living in poverty as a child.
Report glasshouses dogman June 12, 2024 2:39 PM BST
Would he have been going to a private school at that age? A fair a number of children living near me go to a fee paying primary school.
Report Mexico June 12, 2024 2:53 PM BST
He went to Winchester, which is a very expensive public school.

Think that is from 13 rather than 11. Every chance his primary school was also fee paying.

I’m sure his parents could have afforded sky if they really wanted it.
He certainly didn’t go without meals because of lack of money.
Report Cider June 12, 2024 2:55 PM BST
A stupid answer to an even more stupid question. The level of political discourse in 2024.
Report lapsy pa June 12, 2024 4:47 PM BST
What an idiot Sunak is,£32,000 a year to go to Winchester and he putting on the poor mouth because no Sky.

What an odious character.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 12, 2024 4:53 PM BST
If he was at boarding school why would his parents
subscribe to sky.

He wouldn't be popping home to catch Matt Le tissier...
Report lapsy pa June 12, 2024 5:01 PM BST
His parents won't have the slightest interest in SKY either,if there was a bangri-la tv(or whatever tis called) they might get that with the lastest Bollywood blockbusters.

No offense to anyone but that's the end all and be all to it.
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:03 PM BST
Nothing to do with being poor. The Brand plonker was palpably trying to expose that Sunak had a fortunate upbringing. As if everyone doesn't already know. This might impress the champagne socialists, most people are interested in why he's handing out over a million visas a year, not what toy he might have missed out on when he was a child.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 12, 2024 5:09 PM BST
Rishi Sunak, the UK prime minister, recently described how, growing up, his parents were determined that his Indian heritage should not be a barrier for him and his siblings. They did what they could to ensure their children would fit in.

One way his mother did this, he says, was to send them to extra drama lessons. The reason? To make sure they “didn’t speak with accents”, and instead would be able to “speak properly”.

No Rishi you can't watch footy... It's drama clarse tonite!
Report lapsy pa June 12, 2024 5:10 PM BST
No Cider,he wanted for nothing,a GP dad and Mother owning pharmacies, top 1% easily.

It is Sunak being very economical with the truth and it is silly on his part.

How can you trust him or the torys with spiel like that?
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:14 PM BST
He wanted for nothing? So what. Most likely it was due to strict parents wanting their kids to concentrate on school instead of sky.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 12, 2024 5:14 PM BST
Despite his lavish life now, Sunak and his supporters have claimed that he's come from a modest background.

Speaking to LBC about Sunak, Matt Hancock said: "He's not of privileged background at all, absolutely standard background."

Entirely agree, if he'd said we didn't want for anything really, that would have been fair enough but he had to pretend he wasn't privaleged. But then again he couldn't afford a brolly.
Report lapsy pa June 12, 2024 5:18 PM BST
Indeed Cider,so what, however as said a probably easy top 1% of earners then but to be putting on the poor mouth is crass imo, plenty suffered hardship and hadn't a lot.

Why do it? No one is interested but he is saying it like a badge of honour but it doesn't quite ring through.
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:19 PM BST
Middle England, whatever that is. You gotta be a very sad person to obsess about something that someone has absolutely no control over. Incredibly sad.
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:20 PM BST
Maybe you'd prefer he was raised like the feral pond life murderers from Birmingham.
Report Charlie June 12, 2024 5:20 PM BST
It's not a question of having no control, it's a question of being honest.
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:22 PM BST
I've no idea, quite possibly he did want sky. Just because you want something doesn't mean you get it, even if your parents have means. Well, before the era of entitlement.
Report lapsy pa June 12, 2024 5:22 PM BST
I don't give a sheet Cider tbh, isn't it Sunak the sad one that he is doing this?
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 12, 2024 5:23 PM BST
Cider defending him like a good old tory, in case
Farage claims to have suffered hardship...
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 12, 2024 5:24 PM BST
He didn't live at home, he was at boarding school.

He went to uni and then bought a flat in Chelsea.

Why would he have sky TV?
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:24 PM BST
I'd rather tackle a politician on their policies and actions in office. Slightly odd these days, I know.
Report Charlie June 12, 2024 5:25 PM BST
Well he's been sh!te on those.
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:26 PM BST
Exactly. More than enough to go at, rather than something he had no impact on.
Report Charlie June 12, 2024 5:27 PM BST
No, his honesty is also sh!te.
Report Charlie June 12, 2024 5:28 PM BST
Or maybe, he really is out of touch with the populous of the UK.
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:29 PM BST
It rings true, but I really could not give a shyte either way. Just barrel scraping point scoring from a champagne socialist, biased 'journalist'
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 12, 2024 5:30 PM BST
That's it isn't it.

If he's a liar, then owt he says is suspect.

Lying about trivia sets a pattern.

He's a great journalist, he scuppered party loving spaffer.

Matt Hancock is the absolute definition of a T**T
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:32 PM BST
I doubt it is a lie. Boarding school kids do go home you know. Several months over a year.
Report lapsy pa June 12, 2024 5:32 PM BST
Okay, you want to keep it just politics with Sunak Cider.

What do you think of Labours youtube video, 'The Big Short,Rishhi Sunak'?
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 12, 2024 5:33 PM BST
Bbc Laura wouldn't report on Partygate nor peston

Brand absolutely nailed spaffers bollox to the wall.
Report Cider June 12, 2024 5:35 PM BST
Unsurprisingly I've not viewed it. Is it another dig about something he has no control over?
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- June 12, 2024 5:36 PM BST
Starmer continued job in parliament

Sunak arrives via Truss car crash, and promises honesty
when speaking outside Downing Street.

He is as honest as spaffer

It's an alien concept to them

The big short, Sunak shorting uk, and financial wizz cider hasn't watched it,... Yet.
Report lapsy pa June 12, 2024 5:38 PM BST
You really should Cider,i know Sunak was unelected but i can't quite figure out how with that carry on he gets to lead your country after getting so rich on the back of British taxpayers.

Some may say that's just capitalism, who won't, etc, morally i think it was very unpatriotic, maybe you might agree if you watch it.

Admittedly so. I've worked extremely hard at certain points in my career, only the easy life for me now.
