Around two million British citizens who have been living abroad for more than 15 years can now vote in UK general elections, following a rule change by the Conservative government. BBC News asked four expats if they will cast their ballots.
“I deserve to have a say in what's going on,” 76-year-old Valerie Stacey says from her home in central Madrid.
The former English teacher is one of the 100,000 British citizens based overseas for more than 15 years who have already applied to vote, external following the change in rules.
To qualify, Britons must have previously been registered to vote in the UK, or have been resident there. They can apply online to vote by post, by proxy, or in person if they are in the country on 4 July

U.K. is very generous about who can vote.
Irish/ Indian/ Aussies who live here can vote. Allowing people who haven’t lived here for 15 years seems weird.
Perhaps there should be constituencies for overseas voters & those MPs only vote on issues which affect those living abroad. Similar to when Scottish MPs don’t vote on devolved issues.
Might actually be useful if had a couple of MPs who represent Britain Spain, they should have a better idea about problems which expats face.

If you live abroad and own businesses in the UK. Why shouldn't you get the vote?
UK civil service pensions are always taxed in the UK.

perhaps anyone who does not pay income tax should be denied the vote? won't leave many on here with a ballot

If it prevents the flat Earth scroungers from voting then might as well give it a go. Shouldn’t be too difficult to covert a few coke offices into modern day Work houses.
