I have a foot in both camps (UK+Ire), my criticism of the UK is mainly tory politics the last few years,(plus some historical aspects most are oblivious to).  I haven't been wrong there,you have been dragged in a poor direction by them.
Fiscally a big difference between the two, budget surplus,debt,the Irish gov got a lot right,well meaning with the Ukranians it has back fired to an extent, it doesn't need flame fanning by those with their own agenda DB TR or anyone like that.

No real need recently for defence spending though a different vibe today,Ireland until 25 years ago was relatively poor and spending was needed elsewhere in a neutral country. I think the EU are trying to address a more robust defence,not a bad idea and Ireland should play some part,it also should with the UK too probably.
