Nope. I'm in a new build, first and only person to live here. Top notch insulation. My central heating has been set to come on at the same temperature automatically, for over 10 years. I don't turn it off (or on) manually. I can (and do) override it with a 1 hour boost if I want to.

Well I'm not exactly sure when a new build is no longer a new build! but you get the point. Only me that has ever lived here.

If humans bring condensation nuclei into the sky and were to condensate lots of water, then naturally humans would influence rainfall. It's not magic, it's not a spiritual rain dance. It's very basic use of what humans know about how rainfall works

Similarly, if we pump a ton of sunlight reflecting aerosols, sulfates and such, into the atmosphere, it increases the albedo of our planet, i.e. more sunlight is reflected back to space. That less sunlight means lower temperatures. On the other side of this, if we bring green house gases into the atmosphere, then more electromagnetic waves get trapped in the atmosphere, get emitted back to the surface instead of leaving towards space. If more energy goes back to the surface, that results in higher temperatures.

So....yeah....to claim that humans principally can't influence weather and climate....might not necessarily make someone a fruit loop, but someone being thoroughly uneducated about nature and physics.

We know the physical properties of elements and molecules. How they scatter, how they reflect, how they emit. We have the technology to measure and remotely sense the composition of the atmosphere. So we might not be able to directly measure the greenhouse effect, but we can calculate it.

Betfair forumites aren't as reliant on funding from certain organisations as the climate scientists , some of whom were cancelled as a result of giving their honest opinions on climate change .
