Tens of thousands of fresh supermarket chickens last year contained a potentially lethal food poisoning bug, data shows.

Waitrose was the worst offender, with up to one in 15 raw whole chickens carrying excessive amounts of campylobacter. This exceeded strict safety limits.

The retailer blamed factors 'outside of its control', arguing that 'unusually damp or foggy conditions' fuelled the 'unusually high' testing results.

Edwina Currie called out the poultry industry in 1988 and it seems hygiene standards haven't improved.

They have if you spend more than £3 a chicken on the sheet supermarkets sell you. Wait until the US is allowed to sell their awful awful meat over here -their chicks are literally knee high in sheet but it all ok as the meat is soaked in chlorine when dead. Yanks are amazed what meat  (other than deep fried!) tastes like in other countries.

Me ? I'm finally coming to terms with the WEF menu of bugs and insects with the occasional lab-grown steak as a Sunday treat Devil

The bugs in the chicken don’t matter because cooking kills them.

Cross contamination is the hazard.

The whole chicken production thing needs looking at ,from the pollution of the river Wye ,the standard of imports and the inevitable bacteria in intensive farming and the phobias against chlorine.
Strangely we need to import chicken as in the land of foodbanks and benefits we steadfastly refuse to eat the cheaper meats.
So we imports breasts but have a surplus of legs/thighs/wings which we export ,seems poverty is very choosy.
Of course the dearest way to eat chicken ,is in takeaways which we crave.

The meat industry wants you to think organic means free range

If you saw the state of the dead chickens in a chicken shed you'd never eat one again.

Vegan meat is the only healthy meat in the supermarket.

Not a fan of chicken at all, my dogs like it, but I love turkey and ham at christmas (out the greyhound man Paul Ellis shop), brussels, mashed and roast spuds. Lumps on the Gravy.

As the good doctor says , either cook it or freeze it , either will do . My dogs eat raw chicken amongst other proteins but its always  pre frozen .
