It's a bit like water companies borrowing cash to pay dividends, innit
Dump the sh1te into rivers, and siphon the cast into your pockets without long term plan for funding.
Oh we have debt, we can increase bills as we have a monopoly.
Great plan.
Here we have Truss siphoning money into pockets by borrowing cash, where does it go, where does it come from.
If it gets spent, great, and you'll get it back and more. but you risk triggering hyper inflation in a time where you are already importing big inflation from outside forces.
You've also got usa raising interest rates, brexit has weakened pound so you need more or less to match usa rate rises or lose value anyway.
Borrowing to pay furlough when world is doing it puts you in same cycle anyway, and wiping out your industry and workforce during a pandemic when everyone else protects theirs would be careless too.

Well tax cuts generally put cash in rich people's pockets while benefits put cash in poor people's pockets. They are different sides of the same coin.
Both have to be paid for so what is the difference?

Even though they find more and more fiddles to borrow ever more cash.
Gone, apparently, are days of balanced budget
We are into % of gnp, which is about as nebulous a policy as it can get anyway.
Cutting the budget whilst siphoning funds that will likely be put beyond taxation, isn't at all same as normal rises in benefits.
Actually paying for them is the difference. That's why we have a budget and set out plans.Even though they find more and more fiddles to borrow ever more cash.Gone, apparently, are days of balanced budgetWe are into % of gnp, which is about as nebulou
Apparently you can't grasp the concept of a budget, and emergency spending in pandemic versus an unfunded cash grab and the consequences of them upon us all.
Suffice to say the unfunded cash grab had to be reversed and the culprits are out of office ranting to idiots who take up their case.

If a particular benefit rises then the bill is covered by;
cuts to other expenditure, A tax rise or more borrowing
If a particular tax is cut then the shortfall is covered by;
a cut to other expenditure A different tax rise or more borrowing
Last time I looked that was how a budget worked.
So what is the big difference?

Foinavon • April 17, 2024 7:15 PM BST Please explain how they are different economically.I don't think they are, the market reaction was politically, not economically motivated.
The markets are neither politically or economically motivated
They are soley there to make as much money for their shareholders/owners as possible
Basically they gamble on the strength or future strength of an economy and the view of the market, They also make lots of money gambling on recessions and a shrinking economy

You are arguing the Tufton Street line, against the actual argument of borrowing for furlough versus Truss's unfunded bodgit.
Maybe you can argue why Johnson eating cake on his birthday is same as Rayner eating cake at her husbands house.
Tufton Street will love you for it.

Here’s the thing , the markets were spooked because Tuss was not only going to be continue to overspend and not cut spending And with potential fuel increases etc she was going to have to give away a lot of money to shield people from these costs
But those who criticise the buget .. such as yhtl .. and the usual lefties and liberals didn’t criticise it for that reason .. they didn’t want her to cut tax and they wanted her to keep spending So they say oh the markets reacted we were right .. ah no , you wern’t

Your reasoning is wrong because you are off track.
I'm not waffling, you are just joining in having missrd the focus that's been done to death, and now comes back and Truss has risen from the dead as a genius that got unlucky...

the market reaction was politically, not economically motivated
The market reaction was an thing of mass deception, quite how it was done and by who was insane, made me sit up and rethink the stock market as a potential investment vehicle for sure.
Was a manipulation the likes of I have never seen b4, well that's what I thort anyway, how did they do it? What levers were actually pushed to have that effect, was instant.
Hardly anyone questioned it, bizarrely.

No. No one has explained why Welfare debt is different to tax-cut debt. Probably because there isn't a difference.
I am though enjoying your childlike inability to give up on a lie
I was wrong the other day when I said you were forever stuck in Year 10. More like stuck in Year 3 or 4

Fact is there is no difference between debt caused by welfare payments and debt caused by tax-cuts. That's why you can't produced a link.
BTW your chain has been well and truly yanked. That's why you're still waffling.

Liz Truss styling herself "the only conservative in the room" is embarrassing
She's not conservative. She is and always was a neo-liberal ideologue & free market extremist. The only reason she switched from the Lib Dems to the Tory Party was to advance her own political career
I believe she's still the same liberal who stood up at that Lib Dem conference all those years ago & called for the abolition of the Monarchy.
Now, out of office, we are supposed to believe she has suddenly discovered her social conservatism. Give me a break.
Never forget that in 2022 PM Truss wanted to INCREASE immigration to increase economic growth (as if that's worked well in recent years). No true conservative would have ever countenanced such a damaging policy.
As the name suggests, true "conservatives" believe in "conserving" Britain's heritage, its society and its communities, for example. Truss has never shown any interest in that. She'd happily bulldoze an ancient village to build a bypass if it was cheaper than building around it.
I'm afraid she is a snake oil salesman. This new image is another grift, in large part to burnish her credentials in the US, where she seeks to earn $$$ on the book and lecture circuit.
Some may find me unduly harsh on Truss, but I'm livid that such a deluded and disingenuous faux conservative should have been foisted upon us - especially one of such limited ability.
Penny Mordaunt is another one. Despite being a wet Tory who pushed gender ideology, she has also been able to hoodwink a vaste swathe of Tory party members into thinking she is leadership material -- in large part because she was able to carry a sword at the Coronation. Such is the superficiality of our vacuous and moribund age.
The British people need to understand there is nothing conservative about the Conservative party leadership.
They tell voters what they want to hear -- e.g. that they will restrict immigration and fight for British interests. But once elected, they fight for the interests of big business and free market ideology (which favour mass immigration).
With its current crop of leaders it should be renamed the Neo-Liberal Party.

Margaret Thatcher - Thatcherism In international terms Thatcherism has been described as part of the general socio - economic movement known as neoliberalism, with different countries beside the U.K. , such as the US sharing similar policies around expansionary capitalism
Thatcherism represents a systematic, decisive rejection and reversal of the post war consensus inside Great Britain
I suppose the same people didn’t consider Thatcher to be a conservative And they still haven’t got over it

Just watched her recent triggonometry interview. I thought she was a bit hard done by as PM but she is baffling in this interview.
Basically argues that the government is constrained by external bodies and various acts etc that Blair introduced, but that could all be fixed if the party had used its majority to repeal the acts and ‘take back control’ of government. Alas, only Truss has worked this out so far and the rest of the Conservative party has spent 14 years wondering why they never get to implement any Conservative policies.
Shirley this cant be true

Big if that. Yes she could have been a very great pm IF….
She wasn’t an economic idiot She didn’t spout utter bilge all the time She hadn’t been personally responsible for wrecking our economy in but a few short weeks. She wasn’t in total denial about wrecking our economy and instead going for a conspiracy theory and blamed the deep state, or Elvis Presley or globalwarming deniers etc She had a shred of decency or honesty She wasn’t incredibly stupid.
Yes unlucky, she could have been a great pm alright.
