The steady eradication of our way of life is quite serious!
'our' way of life was based on the post war(s) redistribution of wealth from the uber rich to middle classes. The last 15 years has seen the previous 75 years rolled back and more.
'Our' way of life is unpossible with the ever increasing squeeze on bottom 75%'s ability to make ends meet.
The current extreme polarisation of wealth has not been seen since early Victorian times.
I'd suggest you have a cigarette to momentarily alleviate the stress of existing.
If the penny ever drops, then you'll see Rayner in a much better light.
Earning a very decent salary, a shed load of benefits, allowances to work under hours. Driving new cars. A few weeks off 'wellbeing' a year
You've never mentioned what strand of industry you ply your accountancy skills in. You've given clues such as saying all your colleagues "Insist on telling you their sexual proclivities", and I guessed you might work at "Pink News" or similar.
What you're describing: new cars, decent salary, she loads of benefits. Doesn't sound like the average under 40yo joe working at a chicken factory, MaccyD's, retail, teachers, NHS, care homes etc etc etc. Even the Police are complaining about not making ends meet.
Has it occurred to you that your bubble does not give you any interaction with the fiscal bottom 75% of brits?
Yes I prefer to retain a modicum of confidentiality.
very sensible. I'm not trying to pry a reveal from you, just curious how your generalisations seems to lack any knowledge of today's average joe.
and I too started life in skintsville, and with a modest level of gumption, lifted myself out of it.
I was never going to just get a job and leave my destiny to someone else.
But 95%+ of brits do just that, that is/was the way of life taught in schools, 75%+ of them could expect to live comfortably 10-20 years down the line as working or middle class. That just ain't happening anymore, they're struggling.
Forget the snowflakes with a media studies degree wanting the keys to a 4 bed house by the time their 25. look at the 30-50yo's 10-25 years into their chosen jobs. They ain't getting to middle age prime of their life with the "wealth" the previous generation did.
Forgive me for saying it, but your generalisations just don't see the difference in average joe of your time and average joe of 2024.
