I suspect the BBC are intentionally causing outrage in the hope that when most people stop paying the TV licence fee, the government will step in and fund them.
Which will suit the corporation's overpaid leaders immensely.

That won't suit the government of the day, because it blows their cover. And the BBC will be seen for what is always has been, which is a tool of the government.
And the government will have to take the flack for the rubbish programmes and the spiralling waste.

Do Reform have any strategy to get a voice in parliament other than relying on the occasional defector who's been booted out of the duopoly?

There's been a few 'new' parties over the years, some of them occasionally gaining substantial voter support, none of them (with the exception of SNP) have overcome the first past the post Labour/Tory stranglehold.

Is the Reform party happy to be "also rans" like the greens, just collecting ££££ donations, or do they have a plan to get into parliament other than the tried and tested route to nowhere?

That sounds like a dream, and fair enough, nothing wrong with dreams.

I'd say to achieve that, they will absolutely need murdoch to back them instead of the conservatives.
So do they have any plans to get murdoch on their side, or is it just airy fairy dreaming?

Report Dr Crippen March 21, 2024 12:33 PM GMT
People will vote for Reform because they're neither Tory nor Labour.

The idea of voting for Reform in the first instance, is to show the Tories that they'll never win another GE while they mimic New Labour.

While the Muslim situation will increasingly damage the Labour  vote.

If Reform get a few MPs good for them. Who knows where that might lead?
Report Dr Crippen March 21, 2024 12:37 PM GMT
If Labour do get elected, I don't expect them to complete a full term.
Or to continue with Starmer as leader.
There are too many divisions in the party for them to operate as an effective government.
Report Dr Crippen March 21, 2024 12:43 PM GMT

Great idea, lets see how well the the Tory party did a month ago, that might give a very rough guide to what is likely in 6-8 months.
(I'll leave out rochdale because Reform were never going to out galloway galloway.)

Kingswood 2019 Tory seat with 27,700 votes
2024 Tory lose to labour with 8,600 votes, reform get 2,500 votes

Tories lose 19,000 and Reform manage to pick up just 13% of those tory voters.

Wellingborough 2019 Tory seat with 32,000 votes
2024 Tory lose to labour with 7,400 votes, reform get 3,900 votes

Tories lose 25,000 and Reform manage to pick up just 15% of those tory voters.

So far, looking like Reform are on the road to nowhere, "Plan working well, send more money".
Politicians need dreams to engage the public, but with out plans they're staying in dreamland.

Report Pleasegivemeanailedontip March 21, 2024 1:36 PM GMT
I dont understand the logic of complaining that the same two parties fight out every election but voting for anyone else is a wasted vote. Seats swing between parties and sometimes its a gradual process.

If you follow the myths of ‘cant win here’ and ‘a vote for x is a vote for y’ then you are voting for the two party status quo.

This election is easy to vote for reform. The tories are far enough behind to let labour have this one and give the tories the punishment they deserve. Starmer isnt much different to tories so whatever. Reform may be the future if the culture war is moving away from traditional left/right arguments. And if if doesnt they may be a good tool to orce the tories into reforms direction.
Report Escapee March 21, 2024 1:50 PM GMT
I'm not complaining, just looking at reality.

Lib/dems had a plan, focus on Devon & Cornwall, and when they achieved actual seats in councils and parliament, roll it out eastwards across the country. This plan actually worked and they made the biggest inroads into usurping the duopoly for a hundred years, they got powerful voice in 2010 and then fluffed it badly in the corridors of power.

Greens, don't have a plan, regularly get 20% of the vote in some regions, but are happy to sit back, let the donations keep rolling in and stay in dreamland.

Are reform aspiring to the greens model or the lib dems model?

do they have a plan is all I'm asking?

Its a fair question but i dont think its that important. I dont think lib dems success came about that way but arguably the seats led to their peak when cleggy got a seat on a three way debate.

I dont believe that reform getting 1 or 2  or zero seats is a huge disaster for them, as long as they can show that they are close in lots of constituencies.
It means next time around, many people who think their constituency is impossible to swing may have another look

There is no Far Right in this country, it's just an establishment sanctioned term (proximal to Fascist, Gammon, Nazi et al) used to pathologize a straightforwardly nativist, self determinative, existential concern that has been the normative, default position, throughout all history.

You either condemn, unequivocally the ongoing dissolution and demographic replacement of European people, or you are racist, bigoted filth.

Genuine diversity, necessarily, is seated on distinction, the preservation of difference, completely distinct from the version of "diversity"  imposed across Europe, top down, without consent, by an elite - a "diversity" that in reality is just a transitional, balkanized, group based muddle along, in which each minority forms a vanguard to pursue its own slice of the pie.

Name one, multicult in history that has not, necessarily, required a relatively authoritarian stewardship to keep the entire thing from falling apart?

It's BS all of it, in its absolute entirety. Anybody using such a term should be absolutely ashamed.

That's an absurd proposition.

There are a spectrum of political opinions in this country from left to right or right to left, and by definition every spectrum has its far ends, ergo there is a Far Right in this country.

I'm quite happy to concede that most people (80% or so) are dead from the neck up conventionalists, happy to go along with the dominant hegemony.

That doesn't really engage with the substance of what I previously posted though.

I'll ask one last time, how can it reasonably be considered Far right, Fascist, insert whatever state sanctioned pejorative, for a people to reject its dissolution and demographic replacement?

A straightforward question i've asked on here multiple times previously, I'm yet to receive a response. Just disengagement.

Of course there are some scuzzy places and scuzzy people like any conurbation in the UK. but overall we Londoners get on fine with each other.

And has been since New Labour took charge in 1997.

Cameron won in 2010 and decided Blair's way was the way to win elections. And look at the state the country is in now as a result of mass immigration, liberalism, high taxation and borrowing, which Blair started.
