Boris Johnson asked his most senior scientific advisers if blowing a "special hair dryer" up your nose could kill COVID, according to Dominic Cummings.

Mr Cummings's full evidence statement to the COVID inquiry has been revealed, following his blockbuster in-person grilling on Tuesday.

In the document, which runs for more than 100 pages, Mr Johnson's former chief of staff - who has since become a vocal critic of the former prime minister - outlines a number of uncomplimentary scenarios which he says occurred at the top of government.

Mr Cummings wrote: "A low point was when he circulated a video of a guy blowing a special hair dryer up his nose 'to kill COVID' and asked [Sir Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance] what they thought."

Mr Cummings also claims that, within Downing Street, there was uncertainty about whether the prime minister himself was "the source of false stories".

The former adviser raises a story that claimed the government "had brought in masks because of focus groups even though we knew they didn't work."

This was "the opposite of the truth", according to Mr Cummings.

It's not just Johnson and it's not just the Tories.

These politicians have no qualifications for the jobs they do.

In America is someone is nominated for a post, say to be the Secretary for Agriculture, they are grilled by a committee on what they know. If the committee doesn't like what they hear they are rejected.

In the UK is an idiot such as Johnson says his Nanny should be a minister for agriculture he simply enobles them and they are a minister for agriculture

This wasnt a low point for Boris. He asked some scientists a science question, so what. This probably ranks as one of his good days.

Yes Boris is an idiot but this anecdote says more about Doms smugness than Boris stupidity.

Sounds like he was asking if direct heat would kill a virus, I expect this was around the time when people were asking if they should wash their shopping when it was delivered, or drive alone with a mask on.

Indeed. A lecturer will only give a lecture on the subject or topic he/she is proficient about; a political minister/appointee not necessarily so eg Ms Dido Harding.

President-elect Barack Obama announced Tom Vilsack's selection to be Secretary of Agriculture on December 17, 2008. His nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate by unanimous consent on January 20, 2009.

Reaction to Vilsack's nomination from agricultural groups was largely positive and included endorsements from the Corn Refiners Association, the National Grain and Feed Association, the National Farmers Union, the American Farm Bureau Federation, and the Environmental Defense Fund.

Now let's look at Grant Shapps

Grant Shapps was educated at Yorke Mead Primary School, Watford Grammar School for Boys, where he achieved 5 'O' Levels, and at Cassio College in Watford, where he studied business and finance. He subsequently completed a business and finance course at Manchester Polytechnic, and received a Higher National Diploma.

Precisely what qualifies Shapps to be;

Minister for Defence?
Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero?
Home Secretary?
Secretary of State for Transport?
Minister of State for International Development?
Minister of State for Housing and Local Government?

Adolf Vilsack was governor of Iowa and was grilled by a committee before he was appointed secretary of Agriculture so I think he is well qualified.

Noblet I’m not going over every American politician ..
to see if they’re qualified for the job .. it’s a waste of time
as you don’t have the facility to understand .. or even think
clearly and consistently and logically

In the meantime I suggest you praise the Tories for having
such a very highly qualified person as Secretary of State for
Food , farming and fisheries ….

So Johnson has loads of advisors but watches a YouTube video
and thinks his advisors might have missed the
art of blasting a hair dryer up yer hooter.

Maybe trumps sticking a bright light down yer throat
or drinking bleach, or swimming pool cleaner was a similar
great idea deserving further research.

Or the YouTube watching idiots are worried some
