Car firms will still be forced to meet strict quotas for selling electric cars despite the ban on sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles being delayed.
From January, just over a fifth of vehicles sold must be electric, with the target expected to hit 80% by 2030.
Industry insiders said the quotas would be a "stretch" for manufacturers to achieve, adding the delayed ban could make it harder to sell electric cars.

It is expected the mandate will require car makers to ensure 22% of vehicles sold are electric next year and increase each year after that to reach 80% by 2030.

Ian Plummer, commercial director of online car selling site Auto Trader, said the quota on firms for electric car sales would be a "stretch for the majority of manufactures to achieve" in its current form.

It means 2nd-hand petrol and hybrid could be selling for more money.
And this is why I keep talling people to ignore what the puppets on stage say, as they are not in anyway in control of anything, they dont even decide what bin to use much less this sort of stuff

What do the current 1 million electric cars in the UK do then?
I heard to charge an electric car in the future one only needs to plug a gadget into the cigarette lighter socket. Then bingo, job done!

Buy an EV if you like to be mugged.
My Mondeo is 13 years old and I hope it will last as long as your Yaris. The only issue with an old reliable car is if it gets pranged the insurance will only give you the book value.

Round here, I'd guess around 75% of new cars are electric. The new status symbol innit.

Car manufacturers may be geared up for 2030 but the government hasn't a clue how it is going to get the charging infrastructure in place.
Much of the UK's housing stock is shockingly old with millions of people having to park on the street or even on pavements. These people will struggle to charge an EV.
If we hadn't have spunked £100bn on the useless HS2 we could have invested in autonomous taxi service for the UK allowing millions of people to get rid of their cars completely.
