Despite opposition from Sinn Fein / IRA Plans to mark the sacrifice of the men and women who served in the Ulster Defence Regiment through the troubles have been supported by councils . Also a reception will be held in St Pauls church for the UDRs Greenfinches set up in 6 July 1973 as unarmed women recruits. “ it is important we as a council continue to remember those who held the line and protected it in our nations darkest days “ Well said and well done good and faithful servants
Cllr Maighread Chonghaile stared ‘ I do not think it is appropriate with regard to spending council money so I oppose ‘

On 7 August 2001 the IRA agreed on a method of destroying its arsenal . Blair described the breakthrough as “ significant “ and “ historic “ General John de Chastelain of the international commission on decommissioning said the proposals had been accepted by the panel as ones that would “ put IRA arms completely and verifiably beyond use”
The Ulster Unionists said they would no longer take part in the Northern Ireland Assembly if the IRA did not begin disarming . During the process the DUP demanded that the IRA release photographs of the decommissioning process The IRA rejected these claims claiming it would amount to “ humiliation “ , and that two clergymen would oversee the process instead

You cannot connect the dots looking forward only looking back . If the IRAs terrorist campaign of bombing and murder makes you happy that’s a matter for you

ah yes that would be the referendum where ONLY 58% of the population voted.....why was that I wonder ?
The Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), however, called for a boycott of the referendum, urging its members on 23 January 1973 "to ignore completely the referendum and reject this extremely irresponsible decision by the British Government". Gerry Fitt, leader of the SDLP, said he had organised a boycott to stop an escalation in violence

During those turbulent four decades known as the Troubles, British troops were largely supported by Loyalists but went from heroes to hate figures in the eyes of thousands in the Nationalist community. They were constantly the men in the middle between warring paramilitaries and rival demonstrators. Nearly 700 of them lost their lives to bullets and bombs, and in turn, they killed more than 300 people, some of their victims were paramilitaries but many were innocent civilians.
....and the penance is ?
