....but that's what people are constantly told. They are told this is bad, that is bad, this gives you cancer, stop smoking, stop puffing your smoke into the face of others as even passive smoking is really bad, eat your veggies, but not every day the same veggies (diversity gives you strength), walk 10k steps a day, don't sit too long in one go, alcohol gives you dementia, soft drinks make your teeth fall out etc. etc.
Jamie Oliver made it his entire brand to get people and school children away from junk food.

You know what the biggest ailment of western society are? Raised beds and raised toilets. Ain't nobody going to get obscene obese if they regularly have to get off the ground to get up out of bed and if they regularly need to squad real deep to poo.

I don't think one can honestly say, without turning completely red in the face out of embarrassment for lying so brazenly, that the general population is not told to eat a balanced diet, that they are not told that a variety of things should be consumed in limited amounts at best because they destroy your liver (or make you fat, or destroy your brain cells, or significantly raise your chance to develop certain cancers etc.), that they are not told that being obscenely obese is not the healthiest choice a human can make, that they are not told that McDonald's, Burger King and frozen pizza every day is suboptimal in terms of getting your clean food full of every needed macro- and micronutrient in good ratios.
You simply have some people that are so far removed from the institutions and education that they are very hard to reach and then you have a whole lot more people that....know they should eat differently, that know they should be less sedentary, but who either simply do not care or are not able to implement the healthier lifestyle that is generally recommended.

Quite a lot of ailments are curable through improved diet
Very true, but with one adjustment to that.
Many ailments are curable through eliminating from the diet many foods which the body has difficulty handling.
The process used to discover which foods are implicated is simple. But requires a patient with a strong will and determination.
There's nothing revolutionary about the process, it's well know and even the NHS has specialists in this field of medicine. It’s particularly useful for stopping migraines. Despite this it's not widely practised. As saddo said, there's no profit in making people better.

It always amazes me that from all the medical knowledge the world has to offer. The medicine in the West is totally dominated by drug treatments. As if nothing else exists. But of course, there’s big money to be made from giving drugs. Which explains it.

Someone said ''I get indigestion after eating onions.'' The doctor said ''oh you need to take Gaviscon for that.''
No you don't, you need to stop eating onions.
That's the way doctors are taught. They rarely consider the food is to blame even in something as obvious as that.

I understand the patient has to try three other drugs for migraine first, before they'll be allowed the injections for the new drug.
Lol, how do they get away with it?
They must have the medical boards in their pocket.

Migraine is truly horrendous. Long term sufferers become adept at spotting early warning signs and can at least sometimes mitigate the worst of it.
In 2017 I was struck down with what I thought was another migraine… turned out to be a sub arachnoid brain haemorrhage that nearly killed me. That’s how bad migraine pain can be, unfortunately.

Migraines are curable. The evidence has been around for decades.
A study was done at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, reported in The Lancet in 1983. 88 children with severe migraine were put on a low allergy diet and 93% recovered.
Similar trials have been done around the world.
This is clear evidence that reaction to foods is a major cause of migraine.

I don't get migraines, but I do get the auras that precede them. Occasionally I might have a heavy head or a mild headache follow and on one occasion I did get what I can only perceive was a migraine; it was excruciating, but thankfully it was (literally) a one-off. I log every aura I get, sometimes to the left, sometimes the right and each lasting 20-30 minutes. Some I can't log as they happen during the night. I know this because I have, on several occasions, woken midway through an aura.
My diet is varied as I like to experiment, but for 20 years now (since the first) they come have been regular; in fact, I've had three so far this month (3rd, 6th, 15th), which makes me doubtful of the 93% recovery rate, especially as my diet is varied. Would they really be so regular?

As far as treating migraine is concerned, you might as well see a witchdoctor as see a GP. No GP ever cured migraine with a drug.
One drug used in Cafergot and Migril has toxic effects, and in itself can lead to causing migraine. Nevertheless kerching. Tranquillizers are used to no effect. Beta blockers are prescribed. They’re used to lower blood pressure for God’s sake. Of course they don’t work.
I’d rather see the witchdoctor than take the poisons handed out by a GP. At least a witchdoctor’s beads and rattles won’t do me any harm.

Dr has never prescribed anything. He did send me to a Neurologist, but that was a complete waste of time.
Strange thing was, following a bypass I didn't suffer an aura for 11 months. For a while I thought they had been cured but they've since returned. This led me to believe that there was a link. Might be worth taking onboard Dr C?

Are you on long-term medication for other things Aspro? If you are then have a look through the leaflets for possible side effects. It would be better to change an existing medication if it is causing a problem than taking an additional one to treat the side effects.

Yes Foinavon, I take 6 a-day, but the same pills I took during that 11 months with no side effects. I work well with my Dr, he listens and we discuss all my medications. Funny you should say that though, as the aura's began when the medication started, or thereabouts. This followed first heart-attack, which is why I think the heart and auras are related, considering they stopped following the bypass. I wouldn't be shocked if there was a link with the medications, but have found nothing to relate them yet.

Blood pressure drugs are well known for causing gout. So it wouldn't be strange if drugs didn't cause or make migraine worse. But there’s no way to be sure, especially if the migraines were already happening before the drugs.

The other thing I can think of that might cause visual problems is screen time including tv. I wish you luck Aspro and hope you can resolve this problem which must be distressing at times.

Only three of the drugs I take I've taken since inception, or approximately when the migraine auras began. Beta-Blockers, BP tablets and Statins. You could have a point but if that is the case, why did the auras stop for 11 months?
Not really distressing Foinavon, as I'm fortunate that I don't really suffer the headaches or only mild if I do. The auras (known as silent migraines) can be a pain at times, but it only lasts a short while and after 20 years I'm kinda used to them now and almost instantly know when one is developing, as it gives me a small blind spot, that slowly grows out to the edge of my vision before disappearing.

had my eyes checked and they are in perfect health - definitely migraine related as it is common for migraine sufferers to get the same aura before their headaches begin (50% I believe), an early warning system so to speak. As I said, I do get a "heavy head" or similar following the vision, but only the once did I ever get the most awful headache I've ever know. If that was a migraine then I really do feel for those that get them regularly.

Conservative MP Dehenna Davison has resigned as a levelling up minister, saying "chronic migraines" have made it "impossible" to do her job.
Writing to the prime minister, she said people deserved "a minister who can give the job the energy it needs".
She said serving in government had been "an immense privilege that I will forever remember".
She also pledged her "wholehearted support" to Rishi Sunak's government from the backbenches.
Ms Davison became an MP in the 2019 general election taking the traditional Labour stronghold of Bishop Auckland in County Durham.

''For example, the study showed that Asian people have the lowest prevalence of migraine, with the condition affecting 9.2% of this population. In contrast, migraine has a prevalence of 17.7% among Native American people, 15.5% among white people, 14.5% among Hispanic people, and 14.45% among Black people. The researchers note that this disparity may reflect reticence around seeking care or issues related to access to and quality of care.''

A show on LBC last night had migraine sufferers phoning in. Plenty of horror stories.
Two of them phoned in with the answer.
One did the full elimination diet and went through the foods one at a time. He reacted to tomatoes. He cut them out and that was the end of his migraines. This is unusual because allergy/intolerance usually involves more than one food.
Another cured his migraines by accident. He cut out all dairy from his diet for an unrelated reason. And he never had another migraine.
The first bloke mentioned knew his stuff. But he didn’t get a chance to elaborate.
Another problem is that so many people think their GP knows what he’s doing with treating migraine, and still expect to be cured by taking a pill, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

My Brother used the elimination method to control/remove rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, I don't know if you'd call it cured but he lives pain free with no meds.

The migraine situation is a perfect example of the failures of the drugs industry to treat disease. They've been producing drugs to treat migraine since the 1920s. That’s over a hundred years of failure.
When is the penny going to drop with people? The drugs industry is there to make money and not to make us better.
The misery caused by migraine is all down to the drugs industry misleading people on the cause of migraine, purely to line their own pockets.
And speaking of pockets, they've got the GPs in theirs as well.
