Caused by a blackboard rubber thrown by Mr Trengove, the science master, forty-two years ago. It wasn’t even aimed at me!

Still itches in cold weather. Is it too late to seek damages?

Not even an apology was forthcoming by the way.

My hopes of the incident reaching any wider recognition were rather dashed a week later when Bates blew his hand off with peroxide.

Amazing as this may seem I was sitting in Wee Joe Cowans French class roughly fifty two years ago and scribbled with a felt-tip on the guy in the next desk Hamiltons hand, the unfortunate Hamilton made a hand movement indicating that he thought I indulged in manual self-gratification. The aforementioned small insignificant man syndrome sufferer Cowan spotted the hand movement and hurled the blackboard duster at Hamilton splitting his forehead open just above the eye.   The class went on as normal and the period ended 10-15 minutes later when Hamilton was able to go to the toilets and try to stench the bleeding before next lesson. Hamilton spent the rest of the day blood-stained and with toilet paper pressed against his head and not one teacher asked him what had happened. Imagine what would happen nowadays to that bullying insignificant wee cu nt and the school. Different times eh...? Keep us posted with the damages claim - I may try to contact Hamilton after 50 years

Reminds me of an incident at school some 37 years back during a woodwork lesson - my least favourite subject and an epic GCSE fail for me which I cared about not one jot.

The teacher, an oily flaky skinned non ironed shirt type, called everyone around the main bench to watch something. My pal, Bristow, hung about a tad too long at his own workbench and got a mouthful while we waited for him. Five more seconds would all he would take but that was five too many ...

The bevelled edge chisel flew cleanly through the air and took a good chunk out of Bristows forehead, just above the right eye. Horror movie - so much claret and off to the medical room toute suite - then hospital for stitches..

Memory goes dark after that but I do believe nothing actually came of it - incredible !

Like you say vidou - it's a different time of day now

I was once picked up by my jumper and thrown over a desk. We also had a nutter who used to boast he knocked pigs out with one punch, while punching his fist into his palm standing behind a pupil he was annoyed with.
Yet another (called Wilcox) was part of the Holy Trinity paedo ring in Huddersfield. He got jail for fiddling with church kids but no questions were ever asked at the school and I know for a fact he was messing with a mate of mine.

Amazingly, people used to trust teachers in those days much the same as they trust doctors now.
These people aren't any different to the general public. Some are good people while others are not so good.
Consider the kind of person that would be attracted to working with kids?

And in the old days, the power to inflict corporal punishment.

Our paedo music teacher was a psychopath, very scary. He groomed at school by telling everyone to open their book at a stated page. He had inserted some sexual writing on a piece of paper in the intended victims book. When it fell out he would seize it and after a pretendy inspection he would keep them after class to discuss what was written.
Dirty fat fecker.

Saddo we've talked about this before.

I was too gobby to be a target of the paedos but
sadly there were lads, and lasses picked off
by teachers, church, scouts, youth club and more.

Still find out about stuff, 40,50 years on.

Sad

Black board rubbers were ofter thrown.

One teacher kept chalk in a jar and would rattle
the jar as a warning before throwing a piece
of chalk as a second warning before the duster
would be deployed.

Once he threw the jar when the duster failed, lol.

Often.

We never said a word to any adult, but these days the Police would be all over the school asking questions if a teacher was nicked.
Parents never knew what he was up to or even that a paedo teacher had worked in the school. Huddersfield was a long way from Rothwell in those days.

I'm not sure I knew much until I was about
14 and one of the lads was reported to be
sharing a tent with a scout leader.

I wasn't in scouts, but I remember some assembly
at school, and all those in scouts were interviewed
by head and staff at school.

After that pedophile became a word known to us all.

I never understood the appeal of joining the scouts… just seemed like school away from school to me.

My parents made me attend a pre-scout something called “cubs” and I was thrown out after a week or two for disobedience.

Probably a blessing in disguise judging by the other comments.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- September 17, 2023 5:24 PM BST
I joined cubs as my friends from
2 different schools went, and we
played football together, and therefore
had best team. Never stayed for scouts
as football team came under new management
when we all moved up school system into
same school.
