Seems strange to me how all of a sudden these attacks are being reported.....seems to be one every day lately. They are awful animals which have to be banned but how come we have not heard of them until just a few weeks ago????

But a person’s right to go about their life and not get ripped apart by a type of dog breed trumps a persons desire to have a particular type of dog. Plenty of others.
Don’t normally think banning stuff is the answerBut a person’s right to go about their life and not get ripped apart by a type of dog breed trumps a persons desire to have a particular type of dog.Plenty of others.
At primary school my teacher taught me that throughout my live the news would be full of intermittent stories of dog attacks, and earthquakes.
These dogs do look horrific, and it's like some folk having siamese cats and others walking around with lions on leads.

Agree dusty, they seem quite impossible to control at times, like walking round with a grenade on a string.
My brother -rather foolishly imo- took a 4yo rescue dog in this year, his name is Rocky(the clue was there) half alsation half staffy. A very friendly dog with people but quite untrained and he has an issue with other dogs. He is as strong as a horse and my Brother is 70. He drives him to fenced in places where he can run free for a cost, I rented him a 4 acre wood for an hour last week.

There is simply no need for these dogs. They are born to fight and that's what people get them for. As you said, saddo, it's primarily "wrong uns" who get these dogs. It's not the dog of choice for Auntie Jenny looking for a solid, peaceful companion.
And of course the state is within its right to ban animals that are deemed a public safety risk. Not like you are allowed to walk your pet anaconda on a leash into the children's playground or park for small dogs. Or at least I hope you aren't allowed to do that.

Tragic and inevitable. They will apparently be banned but it will take to the end of the year............why. Will stick to my humble Irish bred greyhounds .

Plenty countries (or states within countries) have banned a variety of dog breeds. As you said you possibly won't be able to eliminate every ownership of banned dogs, but you should be able to drastically reduce the numbers if breeding becomes illegal, if vet visits become a lot more inaccessible, if people can't get insurance for their dog, if you can't really walk the dog in peace because you will be known to police before long (at which point they might be able to confiscate the dog).

I see someone with an XL Bully when I'm out. The dog is soft. I've seen it back off when another dog has been barking in its face. I've seen other well balanced XLs as well.
The dogs are far too powerful to be kept as pets or to be out on the streets.
Only a nutter would keep one as a pet. The same goes for other dangerous dogs.
The dog's temperament doesn't come into it. Training doesn't come in to it either. Simply ban the lot.

A very good friend of mine has one called Britney; Britney is barred from her parents' home or anywhere near their granddaughter. As such, Britney is confined to her home. Her parents, sister and brother very rarely visit because of the little one.
I've been invited many times but so far have not obliged. I must admit I'm afraid of doggies with a reputation eg Pit Bull, Bulldog, Mastiff and even Alsatians; Danes, Labrador and French Bulldog are ok.

I use to run a route until some bell whiff decided to get one and he literally leaves it off the lead and it sits on the drive way.. absolutely no fooking way I'm risking running past and risk antagonizing the vicious bast@rd. Theres also an aggressive German Shepherd on the same road although they leave it tied up, good luck parting those pair if they ever get it on, id let them fight to the death leave the pair to it.
Absolutely ugly dogs these xls, what happened to the days of having a lab or border ffs

These things are bred from breeds that are specifically bred for cage fighting to the death, and people are shocked when they get aggressive.. it's these people that need binning as well, absolutely thick and dumb as sh!t.

If that's people's motivation and desire to own one (protection) we're going to have serious issues on our streets. Because these dogs don't distinguish between play or actual aggression, if they see someone running they'll attack, they see it as aggressive and possibly danger. Raise your hand it'll attack etc.
Your going to see cyclists getting jumped on and mauled to death ffs.

The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, was supposed to address this problem. But as usual the lawyers frame the wording in such a way to provide ambiguity, and doesn't go nearly far enough to solve the problem. But what's the point in making new laws when the police can't be bothered to enforce the ones already in place?
The country has gone to the dogs. Lol, just another example of lawless Britain.
