The UK's environment watchdog suspects the government and water regulators have broken the law over how they regulate sewage releases.

It follows continued high levels of sewage releases in England which topped 825 times a day last year.

Campaigners and opposition MPs have called the regulators "complicit" in allowing the pollution.

The government said it did not agree with the Office for Environmental Protection's "initial interpretations".

Last week a BBC investigation found potentially hundreds of illegal dry sewage spills in England.

Went for a swim in the sea on south coast over weekend

Crystal clear when I jumped in , spent 30 mins larking about with mates and their kids.

Back on the beach, spot of lunch until the heat got a little too much again so went for another dip

Mid dive, I was truly launched, I noticed surface matter avec brown flecks - panic

Held breath and closed all pipes and swam as far as I could underwater to get clear ... went a fair distance and still came up in the muck

Fkkin criminal what's going on here - almost ruined the day and couldn't wait to get in the shower

After 13 years of Tory sleaze and corruption people are waking up to just how terrible the greedy corrupt Tories have been.

NHS collapsing.
Schools crumbling.
Rivers and beaches polluted by the Tories’ water companies.

Most do not have the choice Irish.

And it’s always the hope that the wicked sleazy and corrupt Tories will be booted out of power for a decade or more, so there will be half a chance of things getting a bit better. After all, with the public money not being given away in tens of billions in the next PPEgate disaster to Tory chums, or the economy trashed by an utterly arrogant deluded clown like Truss, it’s hard to see them getting worse.
