I think it was far better when we were in the EU ,as of course many millions came in but we were all much happier ,as we just didn't count them........ignorance is bliss ,as they say

The Elite are clueless and care even less, just look at the high Street all going bankrupt - they are good at that, they should downgrade costs of going to Oxford etc, they are turning out failures.
Report Mister E May 27, 2023 12:29 PM BST
It was never going to happen, despite the sound bites to keep the Far Right on side, as I said Cheap labour equals bigger profit$, Sir Ian Duncan Smith and the Tory MP for North Stoke, both blamed our addiction to cheap labour for the current state of affairs.
Cheap labour helps the few, the empty High Streets show what happens in the longer term
Report Cider May 27, 2023 12:48 PM BST
The globalist/liberalist/socialist/technocrat/mainstream media attack lines are already been prepared, blaming Farage for Tory wet lies, deceit and failure. Just in case Nigel returns to front line politics.

There is no end to their depravity.
Report PorcupineorPineapple May 27, 2023 1:34 PM BST
Lol at this news.

You were told time and time again that brexit was a cover, and that immigration would simply be a replacement of Eastern Europeans with Asians and Africans. Time and time again. But you called it Project Fear and believed their lies. Now you want to act surprised and support that grifter sticking his nose in the trough once again.

Refusing to learn from history etc etc etc.
Report Cider May 27, 2023 1:56 PM BST
Since we left the EU and the theoretical ending of freedom of movement, who sets the rules for residency entry into the country ?

As it's your first question, I'll give you a free hint. It's not Nigel Farage.
Report PorcupineorPineapple May 27, 2023 4:53 PM BST
The same people who controlled it before. The capitalists. That's who tell the government that we need cheap labour. Nothing's changed apart from the passports of the arrivees.

But no, it was project fear to point that out. Lol.
Report edy May 27, 2023 5:13 PM BST
Are we pretending that Farage thought he'd be the one setting immigration policies post-Brexit instead of him knowing absolutely fully well that he was selling people something that wasn't going to happen?
Report edy May 27, 2023 5:14 PM BST
Do not sell Farage so short and say he is dumb like that.
Report Cider May 27, 2023 5:31 PM BST
The same people who controlled it before.

Not Nigel Farage then.

Let's get it straight then. According to you, democracy is irrelevant? It doesn't matter what people vote for, the establishment will do what they want anyway?
Report Cider May 27, 2023 5:32 PM BST
Probably coming from completely different perspectives, but we most likely agree on that.
Report Cider May 27, 2023 5:34 PM BST
They could blame the EU for the last few decades. Now they can't. If it did anything, Brexit exposed this.
Report PorcupineorPineapple May 27, 2023 5:52 PM BST
It matters who's in charge as they can put up red lines. The tories of the last ten years were deeply embedded with Tufton St and the big money influence from there.

Amusingly, if you actually wanted to stop immigration you had the chance. It's name was Corbyn. He's the one who'd have put people ahead of profit. But there's no way he could have been allowed to win obviously.
Report Cider May 27, 2023 6:04 PM BST
The majority want to stop mass immigration. The vast majority.

Even the laggards like you, who cannot join the dots will eventually come around. Mass immigration = housing shortages. Not a complicated puzzle tbf. One of many consequences of course, but this one is dear to your heart.

If it was a choice between mass immigration or Corbyn, mass immigration would be more appealing.
Report lapsy pa May 27, 2023 6:10 PM BST
Tbf housing is a bit of an issue but the allowing of vast numbers of Nigerians and Pakistanis is just a pragmatic approach to enable a functioning society and economy.

People retiring early and not prepared to work for minimum(hard to blame them given living costs),what is the solution otherwise?
Report PorcupineorPineapple May 27, 2023 6:15 PM BST
lol, don't think he'll ever get it if he lived to 200
Report Cider May 27, 2023 6:18 PM BST
What makes you think that all of the imports are working in jobs that are productive, lapsy? Most of them are not even working. Well, not on the books.

5 million people of working age, paid not to work is ludicrous. Benefits should be time limited, aside from the most obvious cases, paraplegia, locked in syndrome etc.

I know from my own experience that a lot of jobs are just made up, and aren't productive. I work for a SaaS business that has sustainability managers Laugh

The private sector will do what it does, but these non job jobs should not exist in the public sector.
Report lapsy pa May 27, 2023 6:24 PM BST
Teachers, health, menial work,a lot of vacancies, whats to be done Cider though? You know you need these lads and you need to look after them too!
Report Cider May 27, 2023 6:29 PM BST
It's that 'join the dots' game again.

Say you import a teacher. The teacher has a husband and three young kids.

iyo, will that be a net gain, or a net loss in resources?
Report Cider May 27, 2023 6:33 PM BST
Some rather basic stuff can be done. Requiring degree qualifications for entry into public sector jobs that don't need a degree, would be a simple start. Like teaching, funnily enough.
Report Cider May 27, 2023 6:33 PM BST
Abandoning the policy.
Report lapsy pa May 27, 2023 6:36 PM BST
aah Cider,i'm not the one who pledged to stop the 'boats' while knowingly kept this very much on the quiet.

Some shower that played to the gallery and bought by most.

'They' are now supposed to be addressing this and to answer your question i don't agree it should be allowed in the vast majority of cases and wonder how it ever was.
Report Cider May 27, 2023 6:41 PM BST
The legal immigration figures last year were terrible. Obviously the country was still somewhat distracted by the fallout from lockdowns.

It's the same old story, however. Obviously the Tory party should pay a terminal price for continually lying. However, as things stand in the duopoly, that gets you Labour, who are even more nutty. They've played on that for a decade, but I suspect they have finally run out of road.
Report PorcupineorPineapple May 27, 2023 7:16 PM BST
Noticed that Braverman has been busy paying back the support from Sunak last week, and is now blaming the immigration numbers on Johnson.

The game just goes on and on and the sheep keep taking them at face value.
Report PorcupineorPineapple May 27, 2023 7:19 PM BST
...keep blaming bad news on the old guys, keep promising to deal with it, and keep making deals that actually mean the opposite to your policy, and keep telling people that the other guys might be worse.

Don't worry, there's always enough idiots out there who'll swallow it.
Report lapsy pa May 27, 2023 7:29 PM BST
Tbf it is funny when you see Eric and Ethel being interviewed from Clacton swallowing it.
Report lfc1971 May 27, 2023 7:31 PM BST
If the Labour Party and the Tory party think immigration
is necessary and even good then they can continue with that policy
Brexit and leaving the EU - plus immigration is ok , not sure why
the remainers get so upset .
