TV’s been a bit boring lately so I’ve been rewatching season 4 of The Crown in anticipation of season 5 airing next week.

Really enjoyed seasons 1, 2 & 3 of The Crown but I’m finding season 4 a little hard going second time around as I can remember most events IRL.

Been re-watching Bosch too. I’m up to season 3

Does anyone have any recommendations of good or really bad shows?

Started watching Cracker again. Amazing how dated it looks even if it was made in the early 90's. But the writing and acting are still top notch.

i watched all of "our friends in the north" recently (still on bbc iplayer).
i hadn't seen it since it was first broadcast so was quite nostalgic watching it.
holds up fairly well although in an effort to cover all the issues of the various
periods it can seem a bit forced at times. some cast tho

Mum on the BBC iplayer is one of the best comedy shows of recent years. Watched it when it was broadcast a few years ago and recently watched it all again.

I watched our friends in the North again too.

It was always short on time first time around.

Could have done with 12 episodes at least.

Eccleston sounds like later oz from auf wiedersehen
And Daniel Craig like sting. Mark strong said
he got his accent from auf wiedersehen too,...

Nice to have three actors who get a Newcastle area
accent so well.

Watched the final episode of that last week. Just put it on. I think the train heist episode in the final series is up there with West Wing Two Cathedrals as the best hour of telly ever.

Agree with the breaking bad, till I watched Game of Thrones... Which in my opinion is the greatest tv series ever made.

i thought the first 3 episodes were paced perfectly then it speeded up
and felt rushed but when i think about it maybe that was the idea.
things did feel a bit that way from the 70's into the 80's

the cast was insanely good. apart from the main characters
it was basically the best actors in the UK and Malcolm McDowell

My mrs controls the remote and watched that vikings  and outlander said they were both good.  We aint gone near that game of thrones. Yellowstone was supposed to be good.

I watch the greyhounds most nights but when I do look away it seems a lot of them episodes seem to be hellbent on showing sh4gging . Is it meant to be some sort of warm up ?

A good story has a natural arc.

Often a story is rushed and crammed or stretched and thin to fit it into the number of episodes a TV company wants.

Classic example is Better Call Saul. Saul was a great character but no way was he a 6 season 60 episode show. The result was dire.

it was very unusaul for a uk tv show to have that many episodes but it was very much about the arc.
late 60's to mid 90's is a long road/arc.
it was a clever idea to have the characters move on 5 years and we as viewers had to catch up with them.

SAS:Rogue Heroes jolly jape, great music, historical connection, Steven Knight, killing Nazi’s!

Just started watching Our friends in the North. Think I missed it first time round. Great acting and writing. Love those actors and of course in love with Gina McKee.

Great nostalgia...slums....poverty....plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose!

the modern music worked well in peaky blinders but they got thos wrong.

back in about 1994 i was in a bar in the Bahamas, called rock n roll.
ac/dc highway to hell was playing and a guy next to me said "are you
at the bar" i said nae worries crack on. he said i have a huge round
to buy and i looked at his list and it was extensive. Then I looked at him. it
Was Lenny Kravitz. I hadn't notices but 100% did the are you...........?
Apparantly his mum is from the Bahamas and his band records there too.
he was very nice and very humble considering he is total rock star.

that was nearly an AC/DC story. you do know AC/DC are mainly Scots

Finished watching Season 4 of The Crown. No wonder there has been a DM campaign to rubbish the upcoming Season 5.

Season 4 was un-merciful to Charles when it came to his besottment with Camila and his shoddy treatment of Diana. Season 5 promises more including the infamous tampon phone call.

Can't wait Laugh

I've just treated myself to the latest Kindle Paperwhite. It has a lovely warm light and dark mode. I'm just re-reading the Le Carre novels and catching up on those I missed, who needs TV?

Agree Foinaven , this year finished all Robert B Parkers books (well 90 or so ) reread Tom Wood , Greg Hurwitz and started Mike Lawson's . Still manage to watch racing , rugby prem highlights and any cricket I can find . Royal family are bad enough in real life without fantasy .

I haven't tried any of Parker's books yet but hear they are good. A lot of people seem to overlook the pleasure of reading and whenever I've seen a film adaptation of books I've read I cringe at how poor the medium is in most cases compared with the original writing.

We are lazy Foinavon!

It is easier to appreciate the medium of film if you do not read novels.
