The OP makes a good point it doesn't fall in line with the rest of society,of course nobody cares less now so much so that in my area straight young lads in long term hetro relationships are now openly having sex with eachother on the side it isn't viewed as a stigma amongst the 30 and below crowd.

OP does make a good point. Only the second pro footballer to come out in this country. The first one killed himself. For those who say they don't care, it still takes some guts to do this as there have doubtless been hundreds down the years who haven't felt confident enough to do it.

Lads who've lived their lives straight i.e not gay from young,are in committed relationships living with women,have behaved as hetro males would amongst their mates now get coked up to the eyeballs on weekends and fill eachothers boots without any shame or embarrassment in their 20s.
These lads in particular belong to local Cricket and Football clubs and it's no secret.
When I was young we used to put boxing gloves on and spar in the garden or front room,go out on the pop bring women back and fill them up,being gay was never if ever mentioned it wasn't a thing that crossed anybodys mind in fact it was an 'only gay in the village job' where I live.
In my area 'Ernie the puff' (a bloke 40 odd-50) as he was affectionately known was like a celebrity.
