.

A bronze statue of Margaret Thatcher has been lowered into place in her home town of Grantham.

The £300,000 statue was offered to South Kesteven District Council after plans to erect it in Parliament Square in London were rejected.

It has been placed on a 10ft (3m) high plinth under CCTV surveillance to minimise the risk of vandalism.

However, within two hours of it being put in place someone had thrown eggs at it.

Only one of the eggs hit the lower part of the statue, as the person throwing them was behind a temporary fence surrounding the memorial.

Egg sales have risen dramatically at the local supermarket over the last 24 hours.

Not before time. A statue should have been erected outside parliament years ago.
Be hard though to keep the scum at bay SW. Cut their benefits if they can afford to waste money on eggs to throw.

I hope they don't use the best free range eggs on it.

Statue was supposed to be in London

Good that they are levelling up statues to
backwaters.

Pleasing to see local retail outlets are
doing well from the project.

Margaret Thatcher freed this country from the grip of communist union officials.
She also made owning your own home a reality for lower paid workers.
Respected all around the world.

Throw it in the river. Second worst PM ever as she's been overtaken by Doris.

Lower paid workers cannot own a home today.

Zero chance.

Thatcher failed.

Many "lower paid" workers today are on benefits and many have to use foodbanks to live.
But all the landlords advantaged by Thatcher and her subsequent lieutenants are perfectly happy, Jack.

Maggie didn’t give two hoots and that was her great strength
One of the best things she did was to refuse to give the IRA terrorist hunger strikers
special category . She explained to the Pope they were gangsters and murderers
And therefore common criminals

She didn;t actually but there you go.  She was education secretary when it was done so got the blame but Heath over-ruled her objection to its withdrawal.  It was boozy Kenneth Clarke who proposed it.
Once again lfc1971 found well short of the bona-fide intel.

June 15 1971 Maggie Thatcher promised to cut free school milk ( which she later regretted )
Later in the 1980s she stopped Kenneth Clarkes plan to introduce a ban in day care schools
Once again you have to check anything loyalhoncho says as he’s often confused , and invariably wrong

Again we have the nasty bigot from that part of the world being abusive . They are very good at that
but their ears are too sensitive to hear any criticism of themselves. That’s why there’s been no peace
and why they were able in their own warped minds to justify bombing and murdering .

Now people like that are very intolerant and also petty to throw eggs at a statue
Fine him and as he doubtless expects others to clean up the mess
make him clean up the area as part of his punishment

Now the steadfast resolve of Margaret Thatcher and the British government
not to give into the IRA terrorist campaign eventually led to their capitulation and the realisation
that they couldn’t bomb their way to a United Ireland

She deserves that statue and it should be in Westminster

She was a terrorist and filthy scum as far as I am concerned. I would not visit her statue or throw eggs at it. Leave if there for all in Grantham. Look at the filth that came out if your town.

We are still paying the price if her selfish hateful policies. She has destroyed society and her jegacy us young people who cannot afford homes

Absolute filth, un Christian scum

The files show Clarke was slapped down for his proposals
An official wrote to the pm
‘. You will see from Kenneth Clarkes minute
that he has decided to end free welfare milk for children in daycare

In response she scrawled NO , underlining the word twice

She also struck through a paragraph asking if she wanted to know more

The suggestion that Clarke might not announce the plans until after the EU elections
Met with the brusque comment ‘ Or at all ‘

I’m beginning to like and admire Maggie more and more Happy
