The fallout inherent in the "bonfire mentality" is that open domestic fires will never be banned in Northern Ireland . No penalties on that could be enforced without having half the loyalist population of NI suffer bigger penalties ( based on size of conflagration ) . Assuming the PSNI are even handed .

i usually have a bonfire in March after clearing the garden in preparation for Spring - however noone's been killed yet guess I've just been lucky

When I was growing up in Belfast , tradition was to have a Halloween bonfire . There was one every year 20 yards from our house , but of reasonable size so that it did not interfere with traffic or threaten housing . And lots of neighbours used the opportunity to clear out their garage of junk .
Slight mess after the burning , but relatively easily cleaned up , and we cooked jacket potatoes in the dying embers of the fire after all the fireworks ( not 5 Nov here) were exhausted .
But 50 foot bonfires are just nuts , and if they are painted red white and blue why would any loyalist actually ignite same ? Maybe that is just DUP logic .

I think the people of NI are slowly realising that sectarianism based on religion is a sad way to waste your life.

It was better in the past when youngsters would collect and build large towering bonfires
using bits of wood and furniture and tyres etc - i ( another victim of the green agenda )

burning waste is illegal in Ireland and England in a public area, No idea why this is not dealt with by regulatory authorities, if a commercial business done this, they would face jail time.
