Frost says some parts of the protocol were always provisional and open to review
as it might be difficult to make work in practice
He warned that disruption on trade between GB and NI was so great that the U.K.
might trigger art 16 of the protocol effectively suspending parts of it
Which of course the U.K. gov did back in March
Report lfc1971 October 16, 2021 9:24 AM BST

Here's a clue, majority of those who voted to leave were sold a lie. Also were clueless about the detail. Most
just voted to stop ' immigrants coming in and taking all our jobs '

Smugness of the remoaners is such a joy but now ,mind reading skills thrown in ,splendid.
You obviously even know why 17.2 million voted out.
Some people even speculate that there were many remainers too ,arrogant/lazy and daft to even bother to vote ,attended my voting station very early and was packed with white van man ,plasterers ,builders ,chippies ,sparkies etc. Had more 13/2
While the all knowing slept ,priceless
Report lapsy pa October 16, 2021 5:32 PM BST
No smugness of 'remoaners' Flat, non applicable when 'everyone is in it together'.
A small bit of mind reading skills thrown in alright. They knew.

So how are Frost,Johnson going to sell you 'sovereignty' when you look across the Irish Sea and the North of Ireland 'benefiting' from the protocol? The answer is they won't be able to,the comparision between NI and the rest of the UK could look very lopsided in the coming months.Too good, too fast for there and the fish well and truly hooked.

Andrew Lynas - Lynas Foodservice , Country Londonderry :

Delivers to more than 5,000 catering customers says it has had to employ two people
specifically to deal with protocol related paperwork
As well as find alternative suppliers

“ we’ve probably had to say goodbye to about 20 different suppliers
we have been able to find some alternatives on the island and some in Europe
but for some we haven’t been able to find alternatives

There’s just a lot of hassle and complexity and when you talk to a supplier in GB
they don’t fully understand all the bits of that paperwork ‘
Report peckerdunne October 17, 2021 11:55 AM BST

All because Remainer May accepted Varadkar's non sequitur that a couple of customs posts on the EU border would provoke Barry O'Semtex to start blowing places up again.

The EU lads this week gave a massive help to you with the IMPLEMENTATION of the protocol and determined to make it work.Frostie thinks he is still NEGOTIATING but all that has been done yonks ago.
Boris Johnson was either too stupid, a liar or simply wanted to win an election when he signed the deal,a self made problem for the UK who really should be with the EU in trying to make what they signed work for the people of NI
Report Foinavon October 17, 2021 2:11 PM BST

Reaction of nationalist and cross-community parties

The main nationalist parties, Sinn Féin and the SDLP, and the Greens, have expressed support for the Protocol and called for its 'rigorous implementation'.[41] Alliance Party leader and Stormont Justice Minister Naomi Long said there was a need for "pragmatic solutions" to protocol matters rather than for "people to escalate this into a constitutional crisis".[36]

huge public sector
Report Giuseppe October 17, 2021 5:13 PM BST
As of December 2008 the public sector in Northern Ireland accounted for 30.8% of the total workforce; this is significantly higher than the overall UK figure.[citation needed] Overall, the figure for Northern Ireland has fallen. In 1992 the public sector accounted for 37% of the workforce.

In total in 2006, the British government subvention totalled £5,000m, or 20% of Northern Ireland's economic output.[24]

This had risen to £11,547m in 2009–10 during the "Great Recession", and then fell back to £9,160m in 2013–14.[25]

A 2017 article by a research professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute quantified the transfers at 10.8 billion Euro annually.[26]

In late 2018 The Irish Times estimated that the subvention had risen to £10.8 billion, about a quarter of Northern Ireland's GDP.[27]
