Seems pigs are getting too big for their pens due to a lack of butchers in the UK(15.000). Minette Batters is making an appeal to the government to avert this crisis where 150,000 pigs could be culled in a week. The pigs will be 'dumped' without going into the food chain.

Whatever your views on vegetaranism this is simply shocking planning.

shocking planning?

There's been no planning.

They simply locked us down, the civil servants all went home and the government hoped for the best.

With your argument won't it have been a proactive approach of finding or attempting to the necessary workers to fill the vacancies which are nearly everywhere. The theory side could have been done through a computer and feck all happened till the sheet hits the fan. Why weren't 'they' active to address this and the rest either duing or immediately after lockdown? They didn',they either haven't a clue or sat on their hole.

Why are ''they?''

There's nobody in charge. They just say it's someone else's job to do it.

The government are too tied up in politics to worry about stuff like that. And when things go wrong they simply talk their way out of it.

They're all hopeless.

Not good enough, politicians are paid to serve the people and are serving them very badly,if they are too tied up 'in politics' something is drastically wrong, they are failing the people while cackhandily trying to promote their party. That won't work and will fail on both counts.

I agree with you completely lapsy pa.

Both Labour and the Tories are a disgrace and unfit to govern.

And the civil service is a law unto itself.

Paid to drink tea was meant as a joke. Yet that's exactly what happens in most public sector departments.

Not sure about the civil servents, they have cut a lot to the bone and many have a higher work load.

Scandalous if the pigs are just incinerated and looking likely, why wasn't advice given months ago to the farmers?

Now a full 2 weeks after the opening post there is talk of issuing 800 visas for butchers, very likely to go the way of the lorry driver visas which weren't taken up and who in their right mind would take a short term visa up.

150,000 pigs now heading towards 'waste', fookin nice work.
