Simply put they want the President of Ireland to take part in the 'celebration' centenary of the partition of Ireland. Micheal D is too busy cutting his toenails or something.

i agree partition has been a disaster but can't see any benefit to boycotting this, will just be used by unionists to say south doesn't accept Northern Ireland etc.

Seems a perfectly acceptable move to me though on the issue of a united Ireland that must be decades off...you only have to see the marching season in the North to see how far away that is regardless of your politics...

He has used his time in office to address issues concerning justice, social equality, social inclusion, anti-sectarianism, anti-racism, and reconciliation.

In November 2016, Higgins received criticism from some sections of the Irish media for praising Fidel Castro, saying in a statement that he learned of Castro's death with "great sadness".[89]

British people have to understand - the south of Ireland , and its politicians will never be a friendly neighbour Not in the past , and not in the future.

A damp squib yesterday, hardly made the news, with the Queen unwell surely another senior royal could have attended? More likely distancing themselves from the loyalist politicans and who can blame them.

suitable senior royals getting a bit thin on the ground these days, Lapsy
quite a timely illness for her majesty...
I think pre Brexit lfc the British/Irish relationship was very good and only continuing to head in one direction a very positive one, many younger people especially don't (or didn't) have the same inevitable baggage of previous generations.

I don't think the relationship is bad Brentford,Ireland are rightly looking to keep the GFA agreement with the UK going, that is a red line so to speak.
I am pleased the centenary was a shambles,it was started out as a show of triumphalism,Micheal D knew it.
Enough young have the baggage but if the protocol is implemented properly the North of Ireland is in a position to capitalise massively economically especially if todays think tank findings of being used as a 'hub' are used asap.

The cost of paying rent/mortgage, heating a home, food inflation,fuel/travel, etc is getting uglier by the day, more and more are going to struggle and that is fact. How essentials are measured will be robbing Peter to pay Paul and that isn't just UK.

Illegal immigrants well looked after as well. Top class hotel accommodation, 3 decent meals a day and spending money. Like I say nobody goes without in the UK.
