what happened?
Report lapsy pa September 16, 2021 1:15 PM BST
Simply put they want the President of Ireland to take part in the 'celebration' centenary of the partition of Ireland. Micheal D is too busy cutting his toenails or something.
Report Giuseppe September 16, 2021 1:20 PM BST
i agree partition has been a disaster but can't see any benefit to boycotting this, will just be used by unionists to say south doesn't accept Northern Ireland etc.
Report lapsy pa September 16, 2021 1:24 PM BST
You are colluding with partition if you attend Joe,On top of that the dup have cut relations politically with the South, blank the thing is correct.
Report Giuseppe September 16, 2021 1:33 PM BST

Report politicspunter September 16, 2021 2:04 PM BST
Well done Michael Higgins Grin
Report lfc1971 September 16, 2021 2:04 PM BST

Report dave1357 September 16, 2021 2:27 PM BST

Report shiny new shoes please September 16, 2021 2:44 PM BST
He likes James Joyce
Tongue Out
Report brentford September 16, 2021 2:49 PM BST
Seems a perfectly acceptable move to me though on the issue of a united Ireland that must be decades off...you only have to see the marching season in the North to see how far away that is regardless of your politics...
Report Giuseppe September 16, 2021 2:58 PM BST
Higgins is a left wing radical by the way

would have Ireland taking a million Afghan refugees if it was up to him
Report lapsy pa September 16, 2021 3:23 PM BST
Play the ball Joe,not the man,You csn't have the Irish President 'celebrating' the breaking up of the Island of Ireland.Jeffrey trying to make political capital out of it is the funny point, how desperate.
Good post Brentford.

Can’t really blame him for not going in fairness , it’s not as if he thinks it’s a good thing lol
lot of nonsense .

Was Ireland ever 'united', other than 1605-1922 ?
Report lfc1971 September 16, 2021 9:08 PM BST
No , in fact you will find it was the English who were the first people in Ireland
Report tobermory September 16, 2021 9:08 PM BST
A bit like blaming Britain for partitioning India, with their having never united it themselves to begin with.
Report tobermory September 16, 2021 9:09 PM BST
I don't think the English were the first people there. The English were pretty late arrivals to England, never mind Ireland.
Report lfc1971 September 16, 2021 9:10 PM BST
Best thing that ever happened to the Indian people was England going there - well that was the case everywhere in the world
Report lapsy pa October 20, 2021 6:49 PM BST
The Queen cannot make it either though to be fair there was good racing at Ascot last weekend.

Report Giuseppe October 20, 2021 11:21 PM BST
he's a left wing idiot
Report Giuseppe October 20, 2021 11:23 PM BST
He has used his time in office to address issues concerning justice, social equality, social inclusion, anti-sectarianism, anti-racism, and reconciliation.Love

Polly fantasising yet again.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_D._Higgins

In November 2016, Higgins received criticism from some sections of the Irish media for praising Fidel Castro, saying in a statement that he learned of Castro's death with "great sadness".[89]
Report Giuseppe October 20, 2021 11:27 PM BST
maybe that's why Polly likes him
Report brentford October 20, 2021 11:28 PM BST
he's a left wing idiot

you think everyone that isn't right wing fits that though G...

who'd have thought prioritising anti-sectarianism and reconciliation might be important...

Report Giuseppe October 20, 2021 11:46 PM BST
wants to fight sectarianism yet doesnt go to this Confused

also he's a great friend of refugees and migrants, would have the country full of them if it was up to him
Report Giuseppe October 20, 2021 11:47 PM BST
who does he want to reconcile with if not unionists?

far more interested in fighting "racism"
Report brentford October 20, 2021 11:52 PM BST
can't go to this realistically surely G ?  endorsing a fundamentally though probably necessary status quo based on a mixture of failures and necessities of the prevailing world of those eras...attendance is controversial at best..
Report lfc1971 October 20, 2021 11:54 PM BST
British people have to understand - the south of Ireland , and its politicians will never be a friendly neighbour
Not in the past , and not in the future.
Report lfc1971 October 20, 2021 11:59 PM BST
The same will happen in Scotland if the snp get their way
Report lapsy pa October 22, 2021 2:22 PM BST
A damp squib yesterday, hardly made the news, with the Queen unwell surely another senior royal could have attended?
More likely distancing themselves from the loyalist politicans and who can blame them.
