Fruit pickers are being flown up to 6,000 miles to the UK from Barbados, Nepal, Tajikistan, Kenya, the Philippines and elsewhere because farms cannot find British or European workers.

More than 16,000 labourers from 37 countries were recruited by horticultural farmers this year on seasonal workers’ visas, according to an analysis of Home Office data. In 2020, just 7,000 workers from 14 countries came to Britain.

Meanwhile UK taxpayers pay Jobseeker’s Allowance for people who are supposed to be looking for a job.

Oh and housing benefit, health insurance, education for children. Can’t think why they don’t fancy agriculture work.

A working visa is ideal for the U.K. What is disasterous for a country is freedom of movement

Get the illegal migrants and the those on the job register involved.
Benefits cut if not prepared to work. Win win for everybody.

Pity they can't do working visas
for lorry drivers to drive the
fruit after its been picked
Report lfc1971 September 13, 2021 8:29 AM BST
The lorry driver shortage is for produce outside Britain
As long as we have enough lorrry drivers for local produce

In fact set up farm shops

Do farms have their own abattoirs? Could be an idea actually. Bit like when they'd have a lobster tank at a fancy restaurant. Just rock up to a farm, pick out the nicest lamb and get the farmer to lop its shoulder off.
Report lfc1971 September 13, 2021 8:35 AM BST
The abattoirs are in England - not Europe

We don't have enough lorry drivers
in uk, that's why tories are endangering
lives by lowering standards.

Longer days and easier testing.

Sure why not. Can be housed on farms too while their cases are being heard!

Got to be honest, I cannot imagine why anybody would be paid to sit on their sofa and do nothing. Bad enough when they are feckless and do not want to work, even worse when the Government gives them loadsa money until September!

Maybe it is the lefties fault but are the Conservative Party of The United Kingdom but not Northern Ireland not viewed as lefties because many of their policies and tax raising are way too left field!
