yeah the list I was looking at included the Soviet Union
By:

When: 02 Aug 21 01:52
the surprise for me in the list is Sweden

I knew they won lots of winter medals, but they are also ninth in the summer games, only just behind Australia and ahead of Canada and Japan

Was watching women beach volley ball (purely for the sporting aspect, of course) last night.

USA v Cuba.... it was just getting interesting with Cuba coming back strong in the 2nd set. BBC take it off to show Laura Muir cruising to qualify in a heat... checked the iplayer, red button, etc, .... can't get to see the end of the BVB match..... WALOFS

Just watched that Laura Muir semi final 1500m................. does that commentator know the rules? WAC
By:

What was that Mecca?
I watched both semis live but didn't pay much attention to the commentaries although I did hear him speak about who qualified, was that it.
By:

When: 04 Aug 21 23:57
Yep.... he got totally flummoxed about how many qualified from each semi.... even though Paula Radcliffe had told him twice, he still said that the third would struggle to qualify as the first semi was much faster.. (first 5 in each semi + 2 fastest losers)

Like a lot of presenters/commentators nowadays.... more interested in how they are saying things, rather than what they are actually saying

I actually thought I'd misheard him.
Was when Hassan was making her move but he repeated it again near the finish.
Muir looked comfortable btw.

The Kenyan and the Dutch girl are favourites for the gold.... Laura is clearly next best, so looks good for the bronze ... but of course, anything can happen on the day

Watched the race again and listened this time.
He didn't think the 3rd placed runner would qualify as the first semi was so fast.
He obviously thought then that 10 of the finalists would be from the 1st semi. Laugh

kids in every city in the world skateboard, it's a huge sport

much better than racewalking

a lot of mixed gender team events are a bit silly too

there seems to be an awful lot of them now
