slogan originating in some fictional dystopia. ExcitedLaugh Unfortunately, that intuition would not be far off — it’s from Australia.

has descended into a bureaucratic hellscape over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.
a government-led effort to keep citizens connected in spite of the social restrictions placed on them due to the coronavirus. Though this may not sound particularly abnormal, Victoria is notable in that not a single person in the state has died of the virus since October of last year.

it seems reasonable to think that when literally no one has died of a given disease for almost a year, shutting down society over it makes little sense.

Victoria is not alone. Half of Australia’s 25 million inhabitants are currently ensnared in COVID-19 restrictions of some sort, even though only nine deaths related to the virus has occurred nationwide since the beginning of the year.
Australians have found themselves in something that resembles the beginnings of an unabashed autocracy. People living in Victoria can only leave their homes for a limited selection of government-approved activities (essential shopping, authorized work or education, timed exercise, caregiving, compassionate and medical reasons, or to get vaccinated.) Even when leaving for a state-sanctioned reason, Victorians aren't permitted to travel more than five kilometers (roughly three miles) away from their residence.

Visits are banned. Everything but the most essential of services has been forced closed by the government. Church gatherings are effectively prohibited. Masks are required everywhere at all times.

With COVID-related mortality at nearly zero, such restrictions represent an unprecedented overreaction.

The Biden administration needs to pressure Australian leadership to drop their senseless restrictions.

Oh, if only we were an island and had stopped Covid riddled flights coming in daily, perhaps we would have had as few deaths as Australia.

Much of Oz in severe lockdown 16 months after the original panic. Prospect of further draconian lockdowns hanging over them for the foreseeable future. Health freaks there advising people not to talk to other people they don't know. What fool is going to pretend to prefer to be in that situation, rather than ours.

Another example for why it is so important to have vaccine.

Aussies miles behind UK & Europe in terms of vaccines and hence having the “lockdowns “ we had before people in UK vaccinated.
UK is “open” because of vaccines. Don’t be selfish….

Cry "God for Boris, England and Saint George" (to paraphrase someone famous)

Imagine if we had had the socialist EUSSR worshippers in charge, we would be in a worse state than Australia regarding personal freedoms.
It could be better especially as they are going to batter us "to save the planet" but we should be thankful for small mercies.

EU made massive mistakes with slow rollout of vaccines but they are getting there. Some countries are up there or even ahead of UK now.
They are allowing Pfizer vaccine to be used on those aged12+ . UK been a bit slow to even allow 16,17 years olds the choice to have vaccine.

The Australian government need to work out their exit strategy, do they open up borders once everybody been offered vaccine?

In other words, just randomly picking dates out a year apart is irrelevant as circumstances in the pandemic change rapidly.

They are not random . They are the same date a year apart . If the hypothesis of the virus being seasonal is true , then the graph of deaths will echo this .
Other factors may change the curve but I see nothing to suggest government interventions has changed that . More likely that lockdowns have caused a long term detrimental effect for short term gains .

Saddo do you really think those are odd figures??

Maybe it is worth considering the number of cases in July 2020 & July 2021.

Might be best to look at 7day average rather than 1 day…

So cases 7 day average up to 22nd July 2020= 636
Cases 7 days up to 22nd July 45,871

So around 70-75 times as many cases but only 9 times as many deaths, of which some who died in August 2021 won’t have had full vaccine dose.

More evidence to suggest vaccines work well, they save lives. As previously stated they are not 100% effective.

You are assuming the circumstances are identical-they are  not.

Eyeball

What about the ONS survey, That has consistently showed a correlation between number of positive tests and their random survey (normal a bit over double)

In July 2020 test and trace actually had a chance of working with people being contacted and tested even though didn’t have symptoms, they don’t have a chance in July 2021 as far to many cases. Fortunately because of vaccine this results in far fewer deaths than 45,000 daily positives would have produced in 2020.

Glad you realised that the original post about death statistics was missing information so could fool those with limited mathematics knowledge into reaching the incorrect conclusion about the success of the vaccine.

How the fk can you peddle a further push for vaccines on the strength of 9 deaths all year ?

same people on here again and again

Does anyone find it very very strange how these same individuals have an answer for everything even though it sounds precisely like the default mode of gov/science/vax companies

ie ONE narrative and one narrative only or it's a conspiracy theory

Does anyone find it strange that not one of them ever say there's anything wrong with this whole scenario for 18 months when there are literally hundreds and hundreds of unanswered questions

I know teenagers/middle aged and old folk who have all twigged on that something isn't quite right and that number is growing, yet the same 2/3/4 profiles on here are quick to call black white on many occasions throughout every single day

not to be trusted
and these people are also now a big part of the problem we are facing too

I actually believe there are many many fewer deaths around the globe that have died 'OF' covid than you can imagine

I know of 3 people now fighting to get COVID off the death certificates of loved ones who have perished from OTHER diseases
