CRT is much more that structures have been built througout time by the majority population that gives that majority population an advantage. Often one that the, in the case of the USA, people are not even quite aware of, less the white people being purposefully racist.

Nor does it mean every misery that befalls a minority is the fault of others, nor that it's impossible for a person of colour to achieve the most wonderful of lives.

Reactionaries claim to be all for academic discource and discussion. Why do they want to plain cancel culture discource on there possibly being advantages that come with being a certain race, especially in countries like the USA that do have a very racist past? Countries where structures and laws, especially back in the day, were purposefully made to disadvantage minority populations? Why cancel discussion on remnants of those structures still possibly remaining?

The laws in the USA continue to this day with e.g new election laws (or just arrangements) that are designed to overwhelmingly affect the voting eligibility or ability of certain demographics. They are not saying "Yo, you blacks can't vote" because they are not allowed to do that anymore, much to their gripe, but that's the purpose.

Has a great tradition in the USA. Often using very transparent and flimsy reasoning.

I do not know about the UK. Introduction of Voter ID would be one such case if it's done with the expectation (or wish) that minorities would have a harder time fulfilling the requirements to vote in such a system.

Limitations on early and absentee voting
In North Carolina, Republican lawmakers requested data on various voting practices, broken down by race. They then passed laws that restricted voting and registration many ways that disproportionately affected African Americans, including cutting back on early voting.[15][16] In a 2016 appellate court case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit struck down a law that removed the first week of early voting. The court held that the GOP used the data they gathered to remove the first week of early voting because more African American voters voted during that week, and African American voters were more likely to vote for Democrats.

Supreme Court agrees that US lawmakers are designing laws to specifically discourage certain demographics.

ID cards are mandatory in Germany, and nobody ever asks you for an ID anyway when voting. Germans are in a registry with their living place and when an election is approaching they are sent their voting notification automatically (no need to register specifically for voting). It says to keep the ID ready, but I've never needed to show ID in addition to the voting notification.

As I said, if you have mandatory national ID cards, or you have conditions where everybody does have very easy, cheap access to an ID that is eligible to be used, voting ID is perfectly fine. As it stands right now, that is not the case in the US and the voter ID laws are designed to shut out or make it harder for certain demographics.

when was the North Carolina law introduced?

2013. There has been a flurry of new election laws in the aftermath of the most recent federal election that are designed to affect minorities and poor people more than others. Look for it. You will see.

Report edy July 12, 2021 2:16 AM BST
If you are having voter ID restrictions, the first step is that you create a situation in a country where every citizen has one such ID, and do so without disadvantaging e.g poor people.

Voting is a right and it should be as uncomplicated, quick and accessible as possible.

It is not a privilege that is connected to your wealth, the final grade on your high school diploma, or your working hours. E.g Texas recently banned 24/7 voting under flimsy reasons. Early voting is being made tougher. Georgia banned handing folks water in lines...and you know how very, very, very, very, very, very, very long those lines can be in some carefully selected districts.

If you see US lawmakers and organisers design it so that people wait in lines for hours, that's just plain unacceptable. To top it off, you criminalise it when volunteers hand those people some water.

Would you go vote under those circumstances?
