The department of health is to look into how footage from Matt Hancock's office was leaked, Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis has said.

The video, which shows Mr Hancock breaching Covid rules by kissing a colleague, was passed to the Sun, and ultimately led to his resignation.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Lewis said: "We have to understand how that happened and how we deal with that."

The Sun says the images came from "a concerned Whitehall whistleblower".

The paper's political editor Harry Cole told Radio 4's PM programme the alleged whistleblower thought they "deserved a wider audience".

The paper says the photos and video of Mr Hancock and Gina Coladangelo, who are both married with three children each, were taken inside the Department of Health and Social Care on 6 May.

But there are questions over how the footage was captured from within a government department.

Did Laura turn down the leak?

No Hancock made it a very stressful and difficult time for the country.

He chose to scare the public over something that only really kills old and vulnerable people.

Hancock had the option to inform the public rather than lecture and scare them.

He chose the wrong path with lockdowns and his actions show he clearly knew was WRONG.

Plus, the behavioural scientists and their deliberate, shameful scare tactics have caused far more harm to old and vulnerable people than covid.

Some people really do live in their little cocoons, ignoring the irreversible self inflicted being done to the country, because it makes them feel a little bit safer. Better the devil you know, eh.
Report Johnny The Guesser June 27, 2021 3:18 PM BST
Agree with you 100% on that CL.
The key point is the balance between the costs and benefits of lockdown.
The "lockdown is pointless" type statements are meaningless - lockdowns do achieve things - they reduce the spread of the virus, reduced the strain on the NHS at key times, and have reduced deaths in the elderly and vulnerable , but it is the costs of the lockdown in other areas of society (and in the future) that is the price that we will have to pay. Also the costs and benefits of lockdown shift as the pandemic develops so the arguments for and against continually evolve.
Report mafeking June 27, 2021 3:21 PM BST
of course you try and save every life but not at any cost which has been the policy and certainly not doing immense permanent damage to young people in the process. every day the NHS decides whether it is worth treating very sick people and sometimes doctors decide it's not but apparently when it comes to covid that doesn't apply

and yes WD if i was hancock's constituency i'd be looking to deselect him too
Report Cider June 27, 2021 3:21 PM BST
There's very little evidence that lockdowns reduce the spread of the virus JTG. That's the gvnt and media spin and received wisdom.

There's no evidence that they reduce mortality. Any 'covid' mortality is replaced by mortality from other causes.
Report Cider June 27, 2021 3:24 PM BST
The whole machine, I guess most governments worldwide like the narrative that lockdowns are successful. As they pretty much all fell into the trap, the demand that something had to be done.

Report Cider June 27, 2021 3:30 PM BST
The argument of having restrictions to roll out the vaccine is a stronger one. Reducing the spread, not so. For every English wide scale lockdown, the infection rates where already trending down.

a lo of people misunderstand what groupthink means

Yes - some people have done those things. Of course everybody hasn't followed all of the rules - that's blindingly obvious ,  but that doesn't mean that nobody has followed the rules, or at least some of the rules.
Report Cider June 27, 2021 4:00 PM BST
The actual rules make no sense either, even if followed. So if you test positive, your household and contacts are meant to isolate. But the household of your contacts are not if your contact doesn't have symptoms. At the same time they reckon one in three people have covid without symptoms but are still infectious.
Report Johnny The Guesser June 27, 2021 4:05 PM BST
Agreed it has been illogical and flawed , but that doesn't mean that lockdowns have not at any effect at all in reducing the spread of the virus. In my opinion they have , but , just to be clear I also believe the price that we, and our children, will all eventually end up paying will outweigh the benefits of those lockdowns

It would seem reasonable to suppose that lockdowns reduce the spread of the virus.

But we need more than that before we act, we need proof that they prevent deaths. And there isn't any.

Whack a mole didn't stop it picking up last year. Nor did the full lockdown in November. The virus still ran it course.

Yet if a government didn't lockdown, they'd get blamed for all the deaths.
So they lockdown for political reasons.

The analysis, done for the BBC by the Health Foundation, comes on the eve of the G7 summit in Cornwall.
It measures deaths above expected levels for a normal year.
Last year, an earlier BBC study showed that at that point, the UK had been hardest hit. Overall, UK outcomes are now second worst in the G7.
The analysis shows that in the second half of last year in particular, US levels of excess deaths failed to drop back as much as other comparable industrialised nations.

So the worst are us and the USA.

Couldn’t be anything to do with the “leadership” of Trump and Johnson could it? 1.01.
