It is certainly wrong, a lot of em getting a rise for doing less work for a year, at the expense of those who have done a lot. A bonus for those at the sharp end would have been fairer.

Nobody ever talks about the platinum plated, index linked DB pension scheme, or the gold plated job security. Vastly outweighs nominal pay rises in the private sector.

So the Tories show who is going to pay for Covid.

In case you missed it let’s have a quiz question?

Are the Tories going to

1. claw back the tax handout to the stinking rich bankers who largely fund the Tory Party.
2. Introduce a wealth tax to target billionaires who own loads of houses and yachts etc
Or
3. Give the Doctors and Nurses a nice fat real terms lay cut as a thank you for saving so many lives?

Well well well.

You will never guess.

Sickeningly evil.

Yes some things never change. A pay cut for the nurses and tax handouts continue for the stinking rich.

Splendid priorities.

I have to say that the wickedness of the Tory attack on the NHS staff has surprised even me!

A 1% pay-rise for all NHS nurses is £82.5m.

Government WASTED TWICE that amount (£155m) on a SINGLE botched PPE contract, given to a friend of Liz Truss.

Guess it’s who you know that matters more to this government, not what you do.

They are lucky they don't get a performance related payrise as those covid death rates are hardly a ringing endorsement for the NHS...oops sorry I forgot your not allowed to criticise the sacred National Health Service... srry, the NHS is a fantastic institution, every single member of staff is doing an amazing job, they need much more money, clap, clap, clap....blah blah blah

Virtue signalling will never fall out of fashion for some.
Never a mention of supermarketb workers who have never missed a day.
Whilst other workers could be furloughed and sit at home doing feck all they had to take the risk of being infected by serving the public daily.

If it was performance related they would be getting a cut, we have the worst death rates in the world from covid.

The country, like most others, has suffered a massive blow to the economy so I wonder where this money would come from to 'reward' the nhs staff.

Monies was readily available to pay the Tory cronies tens of millions in producing non effective PPE.
And £billions spent on wasted and useless ' Track and 'Trace ' systems.

The"wastage" point is very fair but maybe the reality of the money isn't there now is true and the sign of things to come.

Johnsons 3 word slogan just over 2 months ago of "we'll prosper mightily" is looking a bit shakey.

Which ones though. There are receptionists at our man hospital who wouldn't last a month in the commercial sector. Yet they'll be able to do an average to poor job for life. You're not even allowed to tell them they are not very good.

Spot on Manoleeds - the people you mention have had their incomes and livelihoods destroyed due to an incapable health service.  Now they are being expected to pay more tax to give these failures a pay rise.

You can tell them though.

I expect hospital staff to be of required standard.

Our local hospital in Durham has been excellent

If yours is not, raise an issue with the trust.

So they are only getting a small rise. Im sure all the people who have lost their jobs and seen businesses they have built up for years destroyed will have every sympathy for them.
There is a case for a one off bonus to the ones who worked in covid wards but lets remember a large percentage of NHS workers did less than usual in the last 12 months. Why would they deserve a rise at all?

hilarious these 'they wouldn't last a day in the private sector' merchants.  The reverse is generally true; keyboard rightwingers doing 'whatabout the supermarket workers' blah wouldn't last 1 shift on a hospital ward.  Not one.

there's some broken minds post on here.  Imagine begrudging nurses an extra fiver.  Just imagine what that says about you.  You vote for Johnson who has started a charity to get his flat tarted up, and the toryscum Patel who just settled a £340k bullying case out of court with our tax money.  You vote for these people and you begrudge a nurse a fiver a week.

It's a hard job, cleaning up sh1t (literally, as in faeces) and helping people who are dying.  It's fkin real work.
But of course a lot of them are women, or are brown.

and you broken little men hate that don't you?  and anyone complaining about it isn't genuine are they? they're a virtue signaller.

broken. little. men.

I find it hard to believe that nurses have been struggling with pay the last year. I’m sure many worked more hours than their basic shifts but assume they were paid overtime for this extra work.

The pension plan for NHS is so much more generous than what could expect in private sector.
Not even sure senior doctors/managers on £70k+ should be front of the queue for a 1% rise.

As mentioned there are plenty of people who have had wages cut. Shouldn’t this be a priority.

Obviously the train/tube driers will get an inflation busting pay rise to top up their massive salaries for all their work in driving empty trains.
